Title: Cutest Quotes!!
Post by: Jacki on December 15, 2010, 04:36:02 PM
Here are my collection of quotes from when I was younger. They always gave me courage  O:)

Dear Lord,
I need your warm arm around my shoulder,
and your hand over my mouth.

•   Do your best and the sleep in peace.  God is awake.

•   Don't fear tomorrow....God is already there

•   Each day is a gift from God...

Faith is not thinking God can,
but knowing He will.

•   Every sunrise is a gift from God.

God doesn't make people feel
like they're standing on top of a mountain....
he only catches them
when they fall from it.

What  you are is God's gift to you.
What you become is your gift to God.

When you feel discouraged, and find that you are lost.
God is always waiting. Remember, His son paid the cost.

When days are sad and gloomy ... you feel you can't go on.
But God is just a prayer away, like the breaking of the dawn.

Put your problems in God's hands, for He knows what is best.
He will be your daily guide, for this I can attest.

I leave you with this prayer to say, remember it each day.
Give all your love to God above, and take the time to pray.

When you have doubt: Matthew 8:26
26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

When you are facing a crisis: Psalm 121
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip-- he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you-- the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm-- he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

When you feel lonely: Hebrews 13:5, Psalm 23:1-6
Hebrews 13
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

When you need guidance: Psalm 32:8; Proverbs 3:5, 6
Psalm 32
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
Proverbs 3
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

There is something you have remember if you have forgotten and this is that "You are not alone". God's love is in your life at the present time as always. Close your eyes and raise your heart and you will see that he is there for you. Maybe even holding you in his arms. Open your heart to his love and to the presence of your Guardian Angel who I'm sure is getting nuts trying to make you smile. Let love, peace and serenity enter into your heart. I'm praying for your spirits health. Do the same and listen to your inner soul. Let the Holy Spirit's light iluminate your whole self.

Recognize that your pain is a blessing. You are working through something important. Ask for God's help in the process. Ask Him to reveal the purpose of your pain. Ask Him to make a positive change in your life as a result of your pain. Ask Him to place people in your life that will reveal His intentions

In my travels I have found that those who keep Heaven in view remain serene and cheerful in the darkest day. If the glories of Heaven were more real to us, if we lived less for material things and more for things eternal and spiritual, we would be less easily disturbed by this present life.

If the guilt of sin is so great that nothing can satisfy it but the blood of Jesus; and the filth of sin is so great that nothing can fetch out the stain thereof but the blood of Jesus, how great, how heinous, how sinful must the evil of sin be.

When you cannot stand, He will bear you in His arms.

If a man wishes to be sure of the road he treads on, he must close his eyes and walk in the dark.

Even in the deepest, darkest moments of your life, when you think you're all alone, you're never completely alone. God is always with you.

I'm going to write this on the family board. I like it.

Lovely Quotes!  I'll get back to them after picking my kids from school.   :happywave:

I love that Psalm.

"Pride destroys everything. To imitate Jesus is the key to be meek and humble in heart."

"Keep your heart pure. A pure heart is necessary to see God in each other.  If you see God in each other, there is love for each other, then there is peace."

"I don't know what God is doing. He knows.  We do not understand, but of one thing I'm sure,  He doesn't make a mistake."

"God has created us to love and to be loved, and this is the beginning of prayer--to know that he loves me, that I have been created for greater things."

"Faith in action is love, and love in action is service.  By transforming that faith into living acts of love, we put ourselves in contact with God Himself, with Jesus our Lord."

"My prayer for you is that you come to understand and have the courage to answer Jesus' call to you with the simple word 'yes'."

"Love does not measure; it just gives."

God give us strength when we fail him. We will fail God, but we can always come to him. To whom can we compare him? He is beyond our human understanding. He is more of a friend than our closest buddy. He shows us more love than our family can. He shows us more patience than is humanly possible. Too often, we try to comprehend God by our human standards. But he is beyond our understanding. The best, most sincere Christian on the earth is but a small shadow compared to the holy ruler of the universe.

"God knows about the difficulties and problems of His people. If you belong to Him, He is able to quiet the storms of life, but sometimes there are lessons for His own to learn in the storm. When you find yourself in the midst of a storm, instead of sitting and weeping and criticizing God, why don’t you look around and find out what lesson He wants you to learn? God will not let you go through trials unless He has something for you to learn."

God gives us strength when we feel lost. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by the pressures of life. We feel lost like a tiny speck in the universe. But God says to lift up our eyes and look at the night sky. He knows the number of the stars and calls them all by name. It is he who created all of them by the greatness of his might and not one is missing – not even one. If God can keep all the heavenly hosts from becoming lost, shouldn’t he also be able to take care of us?

Verse 29
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

God gives us strength when we are weak. Do you feel like this verse – faint and one who has no might. God says that he will give you power and increase your strength. No matter how weak we may feel. We may be wracked with illness, over-burdened with trouble, worried over financial matters, crippled by fear, heart-broken over family strife, or tormented by depression. God has promised that he will give us strength. Can we trust the promises contained in his word?

Men have said that the cross of Christ was not a heroic thing, but I want to tell you that the cross of Jesus Christ has put more heroism in the souls of men than any other event in human history.

As long as we think we can save ourselves by our own will power, we will only make the evil in us stronger than ever.

We profess to think Jesus the grandest and most glorious of men, yet hardly care to be like him. When we are offered his Spirit, that is, his very nature within us, for the asking, we will hardly take the trouble to ask for it

May I be patient! It is so difficult to make real what one believes, and to make these trials, as they are intended, real blessings.

Activate yourself to duty by remembering your position, who you are, and what you have obliged yourself to be.
Thomas Kempis

At the Day of Judgment, we shall not be asked what we have read, but what we have done.
Thomas Kempis

Be assured that if you knew all, you would pardon all.

How quickly passes away the glory of this world.
Thomas Kempis

Intelligence must follow faith, never precede it, and never destroy it.
Thomas Kempis

We usually know what we can do, but temptation shows us who we are.
Thomas Kempis

Who has a harder fight than he who is striving to overcome himself.
Thomas Kempis

Better to illuminate than merely to shine, to deliver to others contemplated truths than merely to contemplate.
Thomas Aquinas

Every judgement of conscience, be it right or wrong, be it about things evil in themselves or morally indifferent, is obligatory, in such wise that he who acts against his conscience always sins.
Thomas Aquinas

Friendship is the source of the greatest pleasures, and without friends even the most agreeable pursuits become tedious.
Thomas Aquinas

God loves each one of us as though he had created only one person. St. Augustine

The most powerful weapon to conquer the Devil is humility. For as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it. St Vincent de Paul

The trials of life cease to oppress us if we accept them for the love of God.Ven. Louis de Granada

Don't worry about me no matter what happens in this world. Nothing can happen to me that God doesn't want. And all that He wants, no matter how bad it may appear to us, is really for the best. St. Thomas More

I have always thought that the bravest Man that ever lived on earth, the greatest Hero is Jesus of Nazareth. The courage of all brave soldiers put together cannot equal His, the heroism of all men added cannot come close to His.  Who would willingly suffer a short and humiliating life of poverty, physical and mental  torture and then agony on a Cross for an enemy, let alone a friend ? Yet Our Lord did this lovingly and willingly for all men.  He could easily have escaped all of this with one word ,  but He bravely went ahead toward His goal, Calvary.  For me there could be nothing more courageous than this. :crucifix:

Who has a harder fight than he who is striving to overcome himself.
Thomas Kempis

I love Thomas a-kempis quotes! :D

But I don't like to see quotes from people who hated the Church like Victor Hugo, even if they're repeating what the saints have said -- perhaps said before he fell into his evils, or perhaps because he didn't lose the good influence of everything. :D

A good quote -- from a good source is the guideline! So people stay with the good sources, rather than wandering into a mix of good and evil.

Victor Hugo wasn't a good man?? I had NO Idea, I read his books and wondered what religion he was because he seemed very wise when it came to God, I will take them off but if someone wants to give me a history lesson about him I would be all ears!  8)

Ah well, it's a difficult subject. Good decision!

I think a little searching on the Internet will reveal the problems! I don't know how deep they go, but they loomed large, and I'm sure there's good there as well as the problems. Every problems have some. I don't need to go far into his difficulties, you can if you wish to study yourself.. but there's too much to go through for perhaps a little good, mixed in with evil. There's no time for that, it's not worth it, and no one has spent the time sorting the good from the evil for us ahead of time, and that's not our job to waste our time with. . . Well I am digressing.

We have to be careful with what we recommend to others because of the problems that can be therein.

That's how it is with so many things really.  :D

He apparently made himself a role model for how to go to Hell when you die, and defying morals as an author.. But rather than speak about him and his problems..

It's just this forum is about saints' quotes, not famous entertainment authors, or people famous for defying the Church. They have plenty of their own forums. :)

Here try for purity and care with sources! If you find a good quote, check the source first before posting it to see if there were problems with it!

I should put this in the guideline so everyone knows. It's not that it's absolutely verboten to say quote him, but hmm.. the context has to right.. and there has to be sufficient good reason.. otherwise.. it's off the subject matter.. and could be troublesome.. if everyone starts doing it..

I just read about him. In his earlier youth he was Catholic , but had a growing antipathy toward the Catholic church.  When asked about his faith, he said he was a free thinker. Yes, not worth talking about him.  Probably a good example of the thread  'Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit' from the little I read about him.

It's strange, but after reading so many saints quotes one can almost tell when seeing a quote if it's from a saint or not. The saints quotes have this uncanny ability of bringing a truth to the surface that maybe one had felt but could never have put into words.

My brother often recommends books to me and my first question to him is always, "What year was it written?" My second question is, "Is the author Catholic?" and my third question, "Have any of the saints ever written on this subject?"

If the answer to the first question falls between the years 1960 to 2010, I normally won't read the book unless the answer to the 2nd question is Yes and the answer to the 3rd is No.

If the saints have already dealt with the topic then I'll go and read what the saints had to say about it rather than read what an un-canonized new author has to say.

My brother gets so frustrated with me.  ;D
I love the saints. They are our best friends here on earth and they never let you down whatever your need is.  :D
