Title: Mother's Day Post by: odhiambo on May 08, 2011, 09:24:38 AM May 8
Mother's Day Today is Mother's Day. I would love to share memories of my mother with you all. Happy Mother's Day Imat! “All the world is a stage....” So William Shakespeare tells us. All the World is indeed a stage. I have very fond memories of my late mother. Mother, may the Lord rest her soul in eternal peace, used to pleasantly humour us in this way: She was very old by the time she died and prone to lapses of memory. At times she would relive some incident or other from her past. Towards the end of her life, she was confined to bed. Mealtimes were, on occasions periods of high drama. Whoever was serving her meal would first offer her some warm water and soap. She would wash her hands then eat. After the meal, she would wash her hands again then lie back to rest. On several occasions, and I witnessed one such occasion. . After the meal, her hands washed and all, Mother kept sitting holding her hands together, expectantly, in front of her. After some time, she called out and I went to find out what she needed. She wanted to know why she was told her meal was ready when obviously it was not! “I washed my hands a long time ago and have been sitting here waiting to eat, but where is the food? Why are you children starving me?” or words to that effect. The best and quickest way out, was to quickly bring some food. William Shakespeare had it right, all the world is indeed a stage, “And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances” Mother entered, played her part and the Last scene of all, That ended her eventful history, Was her second childishness and then oblivion. I love you Mother! Have a Blessed Mother’s Day up there! :crucifix: Title: Re: Mother's Day Post by: Patricia on May 08, 2011, 09:50:24 AM Thank you for sharing, Odhiambo. Title: Re: Mother's Day Post by: Patricia on May 08, 2011, 09:53:43 AM Who fed me from her gentle breast,
And hushed me in her arms to rest, And on my cheek sweet kisses prest? My Mother. When pain and sickness made me cry, Who gazed upon my heavy eye, And wept, for fear that I should die? My Mother. Who dressed my doll in clothes so gay, And fondly taught me how to play, And minded all I had to say? My Mother. Who ran to help me when I fell, And would some pretty story tell, Or kiss the place to make it well? My Mother. And can I ever cease to be Affectionate and kind to thee, Who was so very kind to me? My Mother. ~~ Anne Taylor Title: Re: Mother's Day Post by: odhiambo on May 08, 2011, 10:12:12 AM Thank you for sharing, Odhiambo. There is no one so loved and so special as a Mother.
