'His mistake was to justify himself; who does that destroys himself.'

St. Poemen

That's a very profound quote Brigid. Much time can be wasted in justifying our words or actions when if they are good they don't need any justification. On the other hand, if they aren't good then we shouldn't even attempt to justify them but rather repent of them.

Nothing needs our justification. Our Lord knows the truth.

Thank you. This quote is so profound. Indeed, you are right, Brigid. There is no need to justify, Our Lord knows the truth. Then what is the point in lying, if Our Lord knows the truth? We must always be aware of Our God's omniscience.

'If a man accuses himself, he is protected on all sides.'

'If a man accuses himself, he is protected on all sides.'

St. Poemen

Accusing yourself only adds to ones humility, whereas accusing others adds to ones feeling of superiority. Accusing actions of others is what we are commanded to do along with the Saints advice to accuse ourselves.
