Title: Sooo... embarrassing !
Post by: odhiambo on July 24, 2011, 08:51:13 AM
Sooo... embarrassing !
You are in front of the Eucharist. With your heart and mind you are reaching out to your God.
Suddenly, out of the blue, your eyes well and flood.
your nose run, your concentration is broken.
You fumble into your handbag, or pocket for tissues, hanky, anything to soak up the flow.
You dare not blow your nose for fear of drawing attention to yourself, so you dab at it.
Horribly embarrassed you look cautiously, this way and that way,  to see if
anyone has noticed you moment of acute embarrassment.
Has it happened to anyone.
I need prayers for the tears to stop.
It is sooo...embarrassing. :-[

St Francis of Assisi taught his friars by his own example that those who are trying to be perfect must cleanse themselves daily with tears of contrition.
It's recorded of the great St Francis that when he would hear a lamb bleat, reminding him of he innocent Lamb of God who was slaughtered for our sake, he would immediately burst into floods of tears.

Your in good company odhiambo. Judging from the saints we should be more embarrassed if while contemplating the great goodness of God compared to our own sinfulness we did not shed a tear or two.

Thanks be to God for good souls who shed tears for love of Him. :bighanky:

Thanks martin, that makes it better, though my tears are just "close to the surface", I always say. They flow at the slightest hint of emotion, any emotion  :)
The Saints's tears? now that is something else altogether. That would not embarrass me. ;D

I am glad Bailey2. Next time the flood gates open, the thought of you in the same boot will certainly help me cope. :)

Its happened to me too, especially after Communion. Try to dab off tears so no one notices. :D  That reminds me of yesterday after I received Communion and my 5 year old asks me loudly ' Why is he (priest) feeding you? '  :-[  :D

That's a good one Patricia  ;D
Next step is to go ask Daddy the same question, especially when your answer does not satisfy him. ;D

My tears come so easily during Mass or Adoration too.  Have to always have tissues available.  Just Saturday was nothing but tears spilling down my face all during the 8am Mass.  The 'gift of tears'?

I did not know it was a gift but martin says it is  good to shed tears. Then recently I read about Saint Maura of Troyes whose biography I will be posting sometime next month, she too had the "gift to tears".
So Rachel, let the tears of love for Our Lord flow.  On my part, be they tears of remorse for past sins or tears of adoration of the Lord,
I will try not to be embarrassed anymore. :)

I've noticed that when during Mass my eyes well up and I look around to make sure no one was watching that others have the same thing happening to them. It makes me feel proud and glad that others are receiving the same gift that I am.

One can do a little more to hide one's face but who would let go of tears?

 :D

Every time I say, "Lord I am not worthy" I begin to tear up and become really self conscious and try to hide my face and get composed so I can walk to the altar, after receiving our Lord if the tears come I'll let them flow but I usually have my face in my hands praying.
