Title: Genesis 11 to 12 Post by: pebbles on November 29, 2011, 09:23:05 AM This is the story of the Tower of Babel. I have always wondered if this tower existed. The famous Ziggurats in the middle east (?) reminds me of the tower of Babel. I think I’ve heard somewhere…from a documentary that there are speculations that the Ziggurat is the actual towel of Babel?
In my imagination, the people made the tower very high that when God made them not understand each other (giving them different languages), they were thrown off the tower, and since the tower is sooooo high, they landed in different places on earth :) God wants us to be united. But uniting to do something with bad intention is a no-no. I think that's the moral of this story. ;) Title: Re: Genesis 11 to 12 Post by: odhiambo on December 06, 2011, 09:32:22 AM I agree with you pebbles. the reason the people of Shinar united to build the tower was pride as they wanted to make a name for themselves rather than to build to glorify God. There was also an element of disobedience. They did not want to be scattered all over the earth and yet, that was precicely what the Lord had ordered when He said:
"Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it......" Title: Re: Genesis 11 to 12 Post by: odhiambo on December 06, 2011, 09:33:04 AM In the story of the Tower of Babel, God uses the plural, viz:
Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other." Genesis 11:7 Why is that? Title: Re: Genesis 11 to 12 Post by: pebbles on December 08, 2011, 10:59:44 PM Because there are 3 persons in 1 God, right? Even when he created man, God used the plural form "Let us make man in our image."
Royalties use the plural form when referring to themselves. Wouldn't that mean they liken themselves to God? ??? And in South East Asia were treated like a god (Japan, Thailand, ... etc) Title: Re: Genesis 11 to 12 Post by: Shin on December 09, 2011, 07:48:55 AM Yes, I always thought of it as the royal we or a sign of the Trinity too. :D

Later on we found out that there are THREE PERSONS. But... When asked who he is...he said, I AM WHO AM. He used the singular form. Meaning they are one. Ergo...ONE NATURE. Thus we describe our one God, the Trinity (doesn't that sounds like...is it called "oxymoron"? ;D ) as Three persons in one God. O:) . We can only describe Him the closest our human language can describe Him. But it won't completely describe him. Because HE will always remain a MYSTERY to us... ;D
