Title: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Shin on February 16, 2010, 07:22:54 PM Post your suggestions for having a better Lent here. ;D
My suggestion of the moment: If you have trouble fasting and can't do as much as you like that way, go the opposite way. Commit to eating a food or drinking a drink you do -not- like! I have a few small cans of V-8 in the fridge that are haunting me as we speak. The horror.. is beyond words! :o :'( Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Brigid on February 16, 2010, 07:40:42 PM Post your suggestions for having a better Lent here. ;D My suggestion of the moment: If you have trouble fasting and can't do as much as you like that way, go the opposite way. The horror.. is beyond words! :o :'( I feel that horror whenever I pass them (V-8 bottles) in the store. But now V-8 has the vegetables mixed with fruit juice and I don't mind that so much. Baby steps, right? :D Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Shin on February 16, 2010, 07:46:44 PM Post your suggestions for having a better Lent here. ;D My suggestion of the moment: If you have trouble fasting and can't do as much as you like that way, go the opposite way. Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Therese on February 26, 2010, 04:15:26 PM I like interior mortifications like St. Therese. Like St. Therese we can always smile and be kind to people we don't particularly like, even when it hurts. As far as exterior mortification goes, we can refrain from everything and anything (and anyone) that detaches us from God. In this is found true detachment.
Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Brigid on February 27, 2010, 08:54:55 PM For me, not defending myself when another (not a boss) falsely blames me for something is the hardest. Being nice to or smiling to someone who many don't is easier since I can feel compassion for their pain (even if it's unbeknown to them). Not getting human respect when I 'feel it is my due' is really hard! ::)

Not getting human respect when I 'feel it is my due' is really hard! ::) Yes, it is hard on us when we feel something is due to us and we don't receive whatever it is, but, as you know, resisting these feelings of needing or expecting our due (for human respect or whatever) brings great merit to our souls. Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: creimann on March 09, 2010, 10:48:48 PM I'm having problems with my head, and I'm experimenting with foods a lot in connection with a doctor. So I found fasting to be beyond me this time around. Instead I am listening to sermons, doing more spiritual reading, and not having the radio on.
In fact I'm listening to this sermon at the moment. [mod edit for link]20091213-The-Peace-of-God.html[/mod editl] It mentions various saints, and encourages that we 'go slowly' in our spiritual development, not try for too much at first. Welcome to the forums! :) Tell us about yourself in the introductions if you feel like it! We'd love to get to know you! I know what you mean about fasting being beyond! At least more than a little I think! :) I love the sermons there.. Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: creimann on March 11, 2010, 01:29:44 PM Why thank you! I should explain that by 'head' I really mean 'ears'. So please don't get the impression that I'm dippy, batty, crazy, or anything of the kind. Thanks.

Heheh. ;D Actually, I'm quite hard of hearing m'self. Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Consecrated one on March 11, 2010, 03:02:18 PM Dippy, Batty and Crazy? Oh, my! Ouch!
Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Shin on March 11, 2010, 03:14:56 PM Welcome back! It's good to see you here again! :D
Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Consecrated one on March 11, 2010, 05:29:46 PM You KNOW I have to do my best to stand up for all the Dippy, Batty and Crazy! Just ignorance I'm sure.
Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: creimann on March 11, 2010, 05:53:20 PM I apologize for inadvertently insulting those who are crazy in any way. In fact I think we are all certifiable . . . sinners. :D
And now I shall abstain from mentioning any of my little problems. After all, they are really very little in the scheme of things. Just thinking about it drives me stark staring mad. :o ;D Title: Re: Lenten Suggestions Post by: Patricia on March 12, 2010, 10:35:13 AM I do feel I'm going Dippy, Batty and Crazy when all my children decide to misbehave together! ;D My husband would just say a word and they would hush. I wish I had that magic. :angelblue:
