Title: Quote for the Day: Confidence in God's Goodness and Trust in Prayer Post by: Shin on December 22, 2011, 06:14:33 AM 'The Lord revealed to St. Gertrude that our confidence so constrains him that he cannot possibly refuse to hear us in everything we seek of him. The same thing was said by St. Climacus: "Prayer exerts a holy violence upon God." Every prayer offered with confidence, as it were, forces God; but this force is acceptable and pleasing to him. Therefore, St. Bernard writes that the divine mercy is like a vast fountain, from which whoso ever brings a larger vessel of confidence carries away a larger abundance of graces. And this is according to what the Psalmist wrote, Let Thy mercy be upon us, O Lord, according as we have put our trust in Thee?'

I also know that certain conditions must be met before our prayers are answered. Included among these conditions are: 1: What we ask for must be the Will of God for us. 2: We must believe without a shadow of doubt that God has heard us and will act; in other words, we must have faith. At this point I always recall the story found in Matthew’s Gospel where Jesus came walking on the sea to His disciples who were in a boat. Mistaking Him for a ghost, the disciples cried out in fear. Jesus spoke to them, identifying Himself and calmed their fears. At that point, Peter, full of faith, got out of the boat and walked on the water towards Jesus. All was well but the wind was strong and Peter became afraid and started to doubt and with the onset of doubt, he started to sink. He cried out to Jesus: "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" Lord increase my Faith! :crucifix: |
