Title: New Riddles for the Day
Post by: Shin on January 16, 2012, 03:39:27 AM
'Feet I carry, but cannot walk;
Tongue I have, but cannot talk;
Eyes I have, but cannot see;
Now, boys and girls, what can this be?'

Shoes.

 :D

'What character of the Bible, whose name is not
mentioned, died a death which no one else ever is
known to have died of or can die, and the material
of whose shroud is in every house?'

Lot's wife.

It's in the Old Testament, and somewhere in the earlier books..

And it is a woman..  :D

I think that might be Lot's wife.  ;D

Who went to sea for fear of drowning ?

Noah.

What is that which belongs only to yourself, but
is used by everyone else more than yourself?

Your name.

 :D

I'll give some hints! The first one is a Biblical character! The second begins with the letter 'n' and has four letters!

Second one is 'name'!  Hurrah!

Title: Re: New Riddles for the Day
Post by: Shin on January 27, 2012, 01:16:19 PM
Good one wasn't it? :D

This isn't the end!

Three more. . .

Which letter in the alphabet is most useful to a deaf old woman? What letter helps 'her' more than any other?

Why is an egg under-done like the same overdone?

What bird's name is spelled with nothing, twice itself, and fifty?

... The last is a bit of a puzzle for thought!

Title: Re: New Riddles for the Day
Post by: Shin on January 28, 2012, 11:56:11 AM
These are all toughies so I will immediately give some hints..

What letter should you add somewhere, to make a new word?

This next one would be easier if it asked, why is a soft boiled egg like a hard boiled egg?

Three letters.. And a different way at arriving at each one!

Haha, a last hint for this one. You have to add a letter to a particular word to aid the lady's ability to listen. The word is easy to find as it's in the question.. With one little letter she goes from deaf to be able to..

Haha, you're really good at this Patricia! You're coming up with all sorts of good answers! I bet you'd do fine at another riddle like this! But this one looks like your foil!

Adding a letter to 'her' is the key! But what letter? And where in the word? Haha!

Something there is which lives only in winter,
would die in summer, and grows with its root upwards?

Icicles.

What bird is a child's plaything?

A kite.

What precious stone is like a gate?

Agate!

You know this riddle reminds me of those hanging pot plants that grow tomatoes and other plants upside down. A very strange system, yet, some say it works very well.

But I don't think this riddle has to do with anything green.  :biggrin:

Besides "What bird is a child's plaything?"

I'll offer up two more just so there's more than one to chew on.

What animal took the most luggage into the ark?

Why is a selfish friend like the letter "p"?

Answer: Because he is first in . . . . and last in . . . . !

I just can't come up with anything!

So I'm asking a few ones I've come across about birds:

What happened when the owl lost his voice ?

What do you get if you cross a woodpecker with a carrier pigeon ?

What do you get if you cross a parrot with a centipede ?

And a fruity one:

Why did the banana go to the doctor?

(I'd add answers the hidden way, but I don't know how)

What do you get if you cross a parrot with a centipede ?

Here's quite a fine grand riddle. :D

Enigma.

I am found in the water, but not in the sea,
I am heard in the waves that roll on the lea.
In whirlwinds wild you may look for me,
Though in gentler breezes I may not be,

Silent I fall in the beautiful snow,
When over the earth my mantle I throw.
Amid the sweet summer showers I gleam;
Without me the rainbow unfinished would seem.

Though forced to contribute to want and to woe.
From the first sound of wretchedness quickly I go.
In wealth's lordly dwellings my home I would make,
For an early concern in their welfare I take.

Though never admitted to school nor to college,
I'm known to abound in wisdom and knowledge,
I unite in your worship, your weal I enhance.
Your well-wishes I double, you know me perchance.

Here are two hints in invisible ink beow..

Reveal them only if you're lost! It can be fine to spend some good time before hints!   :rotflblue:

1. Try saying the riddle aloud.

2. This riddle reminds me of some of our previous riddles.

Great riddle, great answer!  That's got to be right!
For those of us (if there are any besides me) who were stumped but now seeing the answer so plainly,
I have a simple one:

I'm a slippery fish in a cloudy sea;
Neither hook nor spear will capture me;
With your hand you must hunt and seize this fish,
To see that it ends up in the dish.

that's simple one to gain us back our confidence.

You are trapped in a room with no way out.
All you have with you is a baseball bat and a baseball.
How do you get out?

How do you measure short to make it more long than long?

When is the only time yesterday comes after tomorrow?

A man went to start his bath but just has he started to take off his clothes he realized the door had locked itself. There were no windows and the bathroom is flooding fast!. How does he prevent himself from drowning?

A man went to start his bath..fair enough. The tap was not running or anything.
He starts to take off his cloth.. Funny, he did not even lock the door before starting to take off his cloth, then lo! the door locked;
again lo! the bathroom is flooding  ???
How come? He did not even turn on the tap; Not withstanding, why not just reach out and turn off the tap?

For this one, I am also in the dark.
I do not know the answer. I was asked, I thought and thought and drew a blank, now I am passing it on  ;D
Here goes:

I wanted to buy a book. The price was 97 kshs.
I did not have the money.
I went to my friend A.
She had only fifty shillings which she gladly lent me.
Next I went to another friend B.
She too lent me 50 kshs.

I went to the bookshop and purchased the book at the 97 kshs.
I was given the balance of three shillings.
There was a beggar outside the bookshop so I gave him one shilling.
Now I have two shillings remaining in my pocket.
I gave a shilling back to my friend A to pay back part of her loan.
We agreed I still owed her 49ksh.
I also gave my friend B the remaining shilling.
She accepted the coin and told me to give her the balance of 49ksh
at my convenience.
Suddenly it occurred to me that the maths was not adding up.
49kshs+49ksh= 98ksh
98ksh+ the shilling I gave the beggar makes just 99ksh.
A shilling is missing, how come?  ???
