Title: The Rosary
Post by: JoyfulMother on May 01, 2013, 12:56:37 PM
I am going to suggest that we do something they used to have on FE:  a perpetual Rosary thread.  Some one would need to pin this at the top of the prayer forum.

Theirs started with just praying one decade.  Then someone else would do the next & post.

You could do a decade or a crown and then post it.  I am hoping that this will help all of us who want to more deeply establish our devotion to the Rosary this May.

I will begin:

1 crown- the 5 Glorious Mysteries - completed.

I think I don't understand. When you say the crown is completed does that mean that the decade is completed or that the first meditation is complete?

A set of 5 mysteries I have heard called a corona, which means crown.

So I did one set of mysteries today.

A corona, a crown, that is beautiful..

For folks who have not yet learned to pray the Holy Rosary, or who require help meditating, here is a pamphlet (http://saintsprayers.net/The%20Holy%20Rosary.htm) that may be of benefit.

The Holy Rosary..

This thread is now pinned.

Got 2 coronas in today!

Finished 5 Joyful mysteries and 5 Sorrowful mysteries.

On Friday - May 3rd - I did the 5 sorrowful mysteries at a Holy Hour of Reparation for the Sacred Heart and went to Mass.

I missed today.  Bummer.

I really want to be consistent everyday.

I spent most of today cleaning & cooking for a visit from a priest frined of mine today, though.

I will start again tomorrow.

Missed Sunday again.

Going to say one today in a few minutes.

Weekends are always the problem.  I guess I will work on being consistent during the week and tackle the weekends later.

Missed a lot last week. :'(  I really wanted to do better.

But back at it today.  1 corona of the 5 Glorious mysteries.

1 decade of the Joyful mysteries after confession for a penance.

Thursday, May 9: one corona, glorious mysteries.
Friday, May 10: one corona, joyful mysteries.
Saturday, May 11: one corona, sorrowful mysteries.

I know those aren't on the right days of the week, but right now I'm just trying to get in 5 decades a day.

Tuesday - full 15-decade Rosary

It's so much easier now that I don't have to study for my actuarial exam during my commute... I don't know how I'll manage it on the weekends!

I only managed a single decade of the sorrowful mysteries - right before I went to bed.

Today, with God's help, I will do better.

My priest told me to make that single decade  - even if right before bed - an ironclad resolution for life.  I am going to make sure of that at least!

That is such a good idea. I've committed to that too, and I'm doing 15 decades during my commute everyday this week.

I figured out how to get in the Rosary during the weekend: recite it along with a YouTube video of the Rosary while I'm doing work around the house.

Missed Thursday.  :(

Got in 2 decades Friday, 1 Saturday.

I am at least attempting it.  It sure takes a lot of effort to establish a new habit.

Hopefully, I get in  a whole 5 decades today before Mass.

I am thinking the morning may be the best time.

I got in a 15-decade Rosary each day except today (when I had to cut the glorious mysteries short in the middle to do a good work) and Sunday (I only got in 2 decades, exhausted from an all-day good work).

I do the joyful mysteries on the morning bus ride, the sorrowful mysteries during my lunch hour, and the glorious mysteries on the bus ride home.

I have missed 3 or 4 days this week.  :(

Confession & mass today will hopefully give me the grace to begin again.

Since last Friday  - June 7, Feast of the Sacred Heart & First Friday both! - I have been blessed with the grace to say my prayers daily.

I went to confession that-day for First Friday & got told that I had no right to complain about anything going wrong in the Church (and I applied what Father said to the rest of my life as well - family, marriage, finances, children, etc...) if I can not meet a bare minimum of prayer that is essential for every Catholic..

Here are his essentials:
1) 3 Hail Mary's & a morning offering upon rising
2) 1 decade of the rosary daily - can be done as you are going to bed, doesn't matter, as long as you do it.
3) 3 Hail Mary's & an Act of Contrition at bedtime.  I am assuming a small examination of conscience before the Act of Contrition.

This takes less than 15 minutes a day & has already brought me much peace & willingness to do my daily duties as wife and mother with much less complaining.

I don't know how often I will be here now that I have all the kids home for summer vacation.  I may get here at night after they all go to bed.....

May God grant me the strength & perseverance to build this holy habit.

And of course, Father told me once I have this iron clad, we will build on it, because after all, it is what he considers the BARE MINIMUM!

Take Care & God Bless all of you.

I managed 10 to 15 decades a day for most days in the past month.

But I've got a lot of other stuff to do now. I need to read True Devotion to Mary and fully understand it (it sure is a lot to think about!), especially since my mother has expressed an interest in the devotion, and I want to do the consecration by the end of the year (I have another actuarial exam in the fall, so that doesn't give me much time). I need to go through my stuff to see what to give away to the local church rummage sale. So while 10 to 15 decades helped me get into the habit, it looks as though I will have to switch to 5.

That's an interesting thought. I've had the thought that none of us have a right to complain about anything going wrong in the Church (or anything else in our lives), period. "Do everything without grumbling or complaining, so that you may shine like stars in the midst of a crooked generation." After all, God gives us our circumstances, so to rebel against them is to rebel against Him. This is something I still have a long way to go on.

Complaining definitely tends to get a bad rap that is true! :D I remember how often the Jews suffered for it in the Old Testament.  :o

I definitely have a long way to go too!

Perhaps we should do a book study on True Devotion?  :principalities: I must say it can be a difficult book, so it might be hard for folks to find something to say about it if we do one though, it'd take extra effort if folks wanted to do one.  :crucifix:

That sounds like a great seed to plant to take root into a flourishing prayer life!

I find very short prayers repeated over and over again very, very, very helpful. 'Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, save souls. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, help us. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, protect us.'

Taking one of those, and over and over again, sotto voce, without ceasing. So I heartily recommend it.  :crucifix:

It's the same practice as saying the Jesus prayer repeatedly, simply with the Holy Family.  :flower:

Might be a good idea.  I read it years ago & made my consecration, but haven't renewed it years.

So far, since Father gave me this advice, I have been able to do it every day - by the grace of God.  1 week!   Perhaps silly to be excited over something so small & basic, but I am not a particularly disciplined person, so for me this is huge!

Let's see if I can make it 2 weeks!

Thanks be to Our Lord!  :flower:

'Blessed Francis Patrizi, who had the greatest devotion to the "Hail Mary" used to recite five hundred a day. Mary announced the hour of his death to him, and he died as a saint. After forty years, a beautiful lily grew out of his mouth, and on each of the leaves was written the "Hail Mary" in letters of gold. This lily was afterwards taken to France.'

17 days straight so far!  THey say it takes 21- at least - to build a habit.  I am going to say 8 weeks for good measure.  I am sending Father an e-mail to ask his advice on how long to wait before building on this foundation & what I should add next.

Sunday - only 2 decades  :(
Monday - a full 20-decade Rosary, with all 20 mysteries!

How did you manage this Paul?
Was it at a sitting or did you split them. I have ordered a 15 decade rosary from someone who makes rosaries here. I am asking Our Lord and His Mother to help me and make it possible for me to pray at least 15 decades as part of my daily prayers.
Our lady on a number of occasions has asked us to pray the Rosary daily.

This is a good topic, I have been experimenting with doing all the mysteries every day and have been at this for about a month.
It is good to see how others are working these in to their day. If I have a chore to do that I would rather avoid, it's a little easier
If I realize that I can say one of the mysteries while doing it. I keep count as best I can as I usually don't have a free hand for a rosary.
I really like to be able to say all of them together when I go for my walk. The distance I go works out just about right for all, including the Luminous.
I like to do anything in the evenings that is artsy- crafty so I started making rosaries to give away. The knotted twine and I just ordered some mission rosary supplies. Our priest can take them back to India when he goes home to visit!

I have read others say that 15 minutes is all it takes for them to say the 5 decades. I take longer than that and would never manage a 15,  leave alone a 20 decade Rosary in one sitting. I would not be able to meditate.
