'Actual sin is committed in four different ways: by thought, word, deed, and omission. The Law of God forbids not only the evil action, but even the thought or desire of doing it; it not only restrains the hand and the tongue, but also regulates the mind and heart; it is in the heart that disobedience begins: the heart is the source of sin, of which words and deeds are but the exterior effects.'
