Title: St. William of York

            William became a priest and about 1130 he was canon and treasurer of York in England.     
            In 1142 he was elected Archbishop of York at the insistence of the king.   
            St. William devoted himself to prayer and mortification at Winchester till 1153.

Ah yes! York Minster is a wonderful place, and indeed St. William is blessed by God, and in return, the archdiocese that he took care of.

                             William's mother Emma was the half-sister of King William I of England.   
                               Pope Eugene III suspended William of York.   
                                In 1147 William was deposed as Archbishop of York.

William of York was the son of Count Herbert, who was treasurer to King Henry I of England.
