In effecting that spectacular miracle of the Crossing of the Red Sea, God indeed saved His chosen people the Israelites from slavery, the same way He now saves His adopted children, the Christians, from sin, through Baptism. The catechism identifies the crossing of the Red Sea as a type of baptism: CCC 1221 “But above all, the crossing of the Red Sea, literally the liberation of Israel from the slavery of Egypt, announces the liberation wrought by Baptism You freed the children of Abraham from the slavery of Pharaoh, bringing them dry-shod through the waters of the Red Sea, to be an image of the people set free in Baptism." So then the Sacrament of Baptism was hidden in that incident of the crossing of the Red Sea. That is why it was just a "type" of Baptism; symbolic only; There are others as well, such as crossing the River Jordan.
