Title: God and Mortiifcation vs. Satan and Pleasure and Self-indulgence
Post by: Therese on August 27, 2015, 06:01:18 AM
We should always beg Almighty God to give us strength to practice humility, mortification, obedience and conformity to His holy Will.

'The Lord brings His servants to eternal life by mortification; but the devil leads sinners to everlasting death by pleasure and self-indulgence.'
--St. Alphonsus de Liguori

We need to break out of self-love (the bad kind) and self-will by humbly submitting ourselves to our superiors and by being mortified rather than indulging our senses, appetites and passions.  We should ever go against our nature and inclinations by practicing constant self-denial, seeking strength to persevere in mortification through prayer.  And above all, we must love our Lord above everything, making many acts of love to Him and begging Mary's intercession for the graces we need to obey Him and love Him more.

[mod edit: added quotations]

Also, we should do everything for God's sake, to please and serve Him, through Mary.  Our every thought, word and action should be to glorify and honor Him.

I nearly thought your intro to St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori's quote was part of the quote. :D

Oh no, it is not part of the quote, Shin; but St. Alphonsus does teach it.  God bless you!

I'll just add the quotations in there, hope you don't mind, so other readers aren't confused too.  :D

Oops!  I hadn't realized that I had neglected to use italics!  Thanks for the edit!
