          The Duke of York founded a college of priests at Fotheringhay in 1411.   
          He endowed it with six acres of land between the castle and the newly built rectory house.

            The Duke of York was Edward of Norwich, a grandson of King Edward III of England.

The work on the present church was begun by King Edward III.   
The church is named in honor of St. Mary and All Saints.

The church contains a notable 15th century painted pulpit donated by King Edward IV of England.

The chancel was pulled down after the college was granted to John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland, by King Edward VI.
