Title: St. Dominic's dog
Post by: CyrilSebastian on March 03, 2017, 04:16:54 PM
The feast day of St. Dominic is August 8th.
Dominic is frequently pictured with a dog holding a torch in his mouth.
This symbolizes the fire of his zeal for souls.

On August 13, 1217 St. Dominic met with his Friar Preachers and instructed them on how they were to preach.
On the feast of the Assumption, Dominic released his Hounds of the Lord into the world.

St Dominic was born in old Castile, Spain, in 1170, was trained for the priesthood by a priest-uncle, and became a canon at Osma, where there was an attempt to revive the common life described in the Acts of the Apostles. Sadly, Foley doesn't comment further about the common life effort.  Dominic started itinerant preaching with three Cistercians in Albigenses territory, and founded in 1215 a religious house in Toulouse which began the Dominican order.  St Dominic, pray for us.
