Post by: CyrilSebastian on December 26, 2019, 09:58:44 PM
The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus.

What time is Christmas Midnight Mass?
Midnight Mass would be held at twelve midnight.
Some churches hold their Midnight Mass at an earlier hour.

The word Theophania is well known as a name for the Epiphany.
The Epiphany was originally a celebration both of the Nativity and the Baptism of the Lord Jesus.

Green symbolizes Christ's resurrection.
Gold represents the status of Jesus as King of kings.

Candles and Christmas lights represent Christ, the Light of the World.
Candles and Christmas lights also remind people that they are to be light to others,
to show them the way to Christ.

How wonderful that God chose the shepherds to see the important birth of the Infant Jesus!
Because of their humble origins, the shepherds could not help but rejoice and tell everyone that they had seen the Messiah.

The angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds and told them the good tidings of the Messiah.
As for the angel, the Bible does not name him.
Might the angel have been Gabriel?

Once again, many thanks for a very enjoyable thread.  It helps especially because my file for Christmas liturgy and devotion is sadly very thin.  I have a bit on the Christmas Octave; there is a little more on the 12 days of Christmas, mostly the English song (do you think it is true England forbade private Christmas celebration from 1558 to 1829?); and a bit about 40 days of Christmas (until Feb 2- Candlemas) in ancient times.  Can you suggest more sources of Christmas devotion (I give praise and thanks for all our wonderful caroles)?  Could you and others comment on the timing of your Christmas celebration?  Thanks again.

In 1558 Queen Elizabeth I of England took the throne.
In 1559 the Act of Uniformity abolished the old worship.
The open practice of Catholicism was forbidden by law.
In 1647 the English parliament passed a law that made Christmas illegal.

Luke did not say the angels heralding Jesus' birth sang.
Rather, they were "praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest.'"

A lady stated that if the person began to read The Gospel According to St. Luke starting on December 1
and read a chapter a day, he would know what Christmas was all about on Christmas Eve.
The Gospel of Luke has 24 chapters.
