Isabella was a daughter of Duke Robert of Normandy. Robert was the father of William the Conqueror (King William I of England). His canonization as Saint in 1457 was the last for an English Saint until SS John More and Fisher in 1935.

He became Bishop of Salisbury by the authority of Pope Gregory VII.
