Title: Best claim to the throne of France?
Post by: curious on August 15, 2025, 07:13:55 AM
The three main houses with claimants to the French throne are the Bourbon, Orléans, and Bonaparte lines. The current heads of these lines, and thus the main pretenders, are Louis Alphonse de Bourbon, Prince Jean, Duke of Vendôme, and Prince Napoleon, respectively.

The house of Bourbon are the nearest direct male descendents of Louis 14 from King Philip V of Spain
The House of Orleans  are descended from King Louis Phillippie the last king of France -also a descendent of Lous 14
The House of Bonaparte is ironically both descended in the female line  descendents of Louis 14 from King Philip V of Spain [Bourbon] and from King Louis Phillippie [Orleans]

Prince Louis, Duke of Anjou comes from a more senior lineage because he is descended from King Louis XIV.
Prince Jean d'Orleans is descended from King Louis XIII.

Thanks for both fascinating posts.  I wonder if you might consider that a constitutional monarchy might be the form of government most resistant to long term control by evil spirits, even if more at risk of temporary, short-term weakness?
