I just discovered a Saint that others my or may not heard of.  Her name is St. Chrisitina the Astonishing.  For more than 700 years her biographers have been calling her by that name.  She was born in Belgium in 1150 and became an orphan at the age of 15.  After suffering an epileptic fit at the age of 21, she was pronounced dead.  She returned from this near death experience in order to proclaim her mission as one of praying for the souls in purgatory. She is the saint to pray to for help with mental illness as she was considered during her lifetime as seeming to act very strange and possibly being regarded as being mentally ill.

She spent many years living a homeless life, and although a beggar was known to have compassion on the sick.  She died in a convent at the age of 74.  it is advised to pray to St. Christina the Astonishing for those who suffer from mental illness and for mental health workers.

Prayer to St. Christina the Astonishing:
Dear St. Chrisitna, we implore your help in seeing beyond the material things of this world.  Through your intersession may we always seek to see the workings of God in our lives.  Never let us give up hope even when others do not understand us and are quick to condemn us as mentally ill.  We ask for your abundant blessings,  Amen.
