Title: Poll of Ireland Shows Overwhelming Support for Continued Abortion Ban Post by: Shin on May 27, 2010, 07:40:43 AM Poll of Ireland shows overwhelming support for continued abortion ban
Excerpts from CNA Dublin, Ireland, Apr 20, 2010 - A survey of the Republic of Ireland shows that 70 percent of Irish people support the constitutional protection for the unborn, including the prohibition of abortion. One pro-life leader said the “hugely reassuring” results show “overwhelming public support” for unborn children and their mothers. The survey, commissioned by the Pro-Life Campaign, asked respondents if they favor or oppose “constitutional protection for the unborn that prohibits abortion but allows the continuation of the existing practice of intervention to save a mother’s life in accordance with Irish medical ethics.” Seventy percent supported the constitutional protections while only 13 percent opposed it. Another 16 percent of respondents did not know or had no opinion. The Pro-Life Campaign’s Dr. Berry Kiely announced the results last week at a press conference at Buswells Hotel in Dublin. She said the poll is distinguished from other polls showing support from abortion by its distinction between necessary medical interventions in pregnancy and induced abortion “where the life of the unborn child is directly targeted.” “This is a critical ethical distinction which abortion advocates constantly seek to blur,” she charged. “Some abortion advocates claim that legalized abortion ‘confronts the reality of crisis pregnancy.’ However, this contention ignores the humanity of the unborn child throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy and the latest research highlighting the negative consequences of abortion for women.” Title: Re: Poll of Ireland Shows Overwhelming Support for Continued Abortion Ban Post by: martin on May 27, 2010, 08:39:04 AM The fight to keep Ireland abortion free is relentless despite all major political parties being very much pro abortion. The Quality of government leadership in Ireland is abysmal and they've tried every trick in the book to get Irish voters to change their minds on this important issue. Irish politicians are the most corrupt in the whole of Europe and will bend over backwards to appease the unelected Euro bureaucrats who dictate to them concerning Irish affairs.
No more so was this evidenced in the Lisbon Treaty vote where after the electorate rejected it twice, the government had yet another referendum and used every scare tactic they could conjure up to obtain the yes vote. Northern Ireland has rejected every attempt to have abortion imposed and all major parties here are opposed to abortion, the most outspoken of these being the protestant parties (to the shame of the catholics). There was a recent court challenge by the pro choice lobby to have the law clarified (in other words changed) but after much public action by pro life activists which included marching 7 times round the High Court building ( as Joshua's army did in Jericho) praying the rosary, the judge threw out the challenge and ruled in favour of the current law. Yes, I remember following that somewhat in the papers and being happy you fellows resisted it for so long, but they pushed it through, what a shame! Deo gratias, it's great to hear about the march round the High Court building praying the rosary! This global government movement has a lot of steam behind it! It's going to be hard to resist! |
