Title: E-Books in Different Languages
Post by: ChristianCatholic on June 28, 2010, 07:33:05 PM
Do the members here know of any Catholic e-books (like the ones on the Saints Books site), or even just general Catholic spiritual writings available online in French?

I'm sorry that I don't. Perhaps someone else will respond eventually! Try some targeted searches!

I know there are some religious books in French I wish I could find in English..

Otherwise..

I think 'The Internet Archive' has some saints' writings in French, and you can find some on Google Books.

These are secular sites so there're a mix of good and evil on them, one must carefully only use the safer sections of the site, use filters and image/video blocker ad-ons for your internet browser, and even then some bad ebooks will show up in searches -- but there are some available on it, works of the saints findable with targetted searches.

If you are willing to take the risk you can find some stuff there. They are not for many. I wish I had foreign language sections of the works of the saints and saints' quotes website. If I get foreign language helpers someday who want to do it, perhaps we will! And perhaps others have already started these works in these other languages! Surely somewhere something is happening..

I hope someday the more foreign language writings of the saints can be gathered from other not so safe sites and kept here, where links are minimal and strictly supervised, and ads are nonexistent.  :D

And I definitely pray someday I can have Saints' Quotes (http://www.saintsquotes.net) be full of foreign language translations. That would be tres bien!

I dropped out of my French class in highschool. I only retained a few things (http://saintsworks.net/forums/index.php?topic=214.0) from it..

I went to Redemptorist bookstore in Sai Gon last week, buy many books -- total cost was just over 20 USD! Hardcover Glories of Mary, and over 15 smaller books (including a book that is titled The Business of Salvation, that is very similar to Preparation for Death).

Since you were planning to come to the U.S. you can get spiritual books at a cheaper price at Our lady of the Rosary library. I've bought many books at this site for very good prices. :)

By the way, ChristianCatholic, have you ever read Le Grand Catéchisme De Canisius?

As far as I can tell, and I keep hunting, there is no translation of St. Peter Canisius's large catechism in English, and I have desperately wanted to read it for a long time (who would not want to read a catechism by a saint?).

I've seen the French version of it for sale and also in etext version on the Internet Archive.

I speak and write French and know where you may procure many Catholic e-books on line.

Gene, if you ever feel moved to, I'd love to read some quotations of St. Peter Canisius's catechism. We really need a volunteer to translate excerpts of it into English, because it is as far as I can tell, completely unavailable in the English language.

Doing spiritual works like this can truly profit a person in this life and in the next spiritually.
