Title: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: administrator on January 13, 2010, 01:32:07 AM Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums.
These forums are for discussion the Faith and everyday life, and especially learning about and talking about the saints whom we love so much and who love us so much. It is hoped you will find peace, fun and joy here, as well as moving more deeply into your Faith so that we may have the Passion and sorrow of Christ in our hearts and bear our crosses well daily. These forums have been created to be an alternative to the more contentious, argumentative, and griping forums so often found throughout the net. The emphasis is upon friendliness, peace, and joy and mutual support. Everyone who posts on these forums is called upon to respond to others in a manner fitting the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have done unto your own self, and even beyond this. If you feel the need to post otherwise, there are other forums from which this forum is a refugee hospital that you may return to. Moderation will be engaged in as is necessary to ensure that there is a genuine spirit of love of neighbor in our posts. Do not put on a false smile! Genuinely work up a true spirit of love, of care, for your neighbor, and you will profit immensely. Think of your neighbor as a visit from Christ. Try to be a saint. :D So here follow some principles and rules of the road. And these are meant seriously, so please pay attention to them. Before you post, if you feel as if you are unleashing darkness upon the earth, a gripe, a flame, a put down, a crushing argument that will give you victory -- Don't! It does not matter if you actually have the right belief or truth or not, this is not the spirit in which to proceed to deliver it. Stop, pray, and think about how to communicate differently, in a spirit of love. Hold back, and if someone has a view you differ with, approach that person from the viewpoint of a friend, who genuinely cares rather than a debater who is trying to prove a point which in the end, if true, will always be so and does not need so much an investment as to discard any love. Think more of what will move the person you are speaking to, to understand and walk in your own shoes, rather than focusing only on the abstract of the discussion. Do not expect people to agree with you immediately even if you do this, but leave it up to God and give them time to digest and think over what you have said, rather than feel they have to defend their beliefs to the last man because of some emotional investment in them. We must be detached if we are to find the truth, and our emotions and the emotions we stir up in delivering that truth can be a barrier to this. At times people will express beliefs that require a firm response. Be firm without being harsh. So, these forums are not places for debates, arguments, griping, etc. They are for courteous discussions. Non-Catholics are welcome, but cautioned not to try to prove points contrary to the teachings of the Church or seek to acquire converts. This is a haven for Catholic discussion and sharing, not apologetics, there are other places you may do this on the Internet. Please feel free to join in talking about daily life and introduce yourself! If you have a question about the faith and you would honestly like to learn more, feel free to ask it here, and the people here will do their best to respond to the extent they know how. Simply do not do it in a spirit of challenge, but one of learning about what others believe and why they believe it. Open yourself to the knowledge that both you and your neighbor genuinely desire the truth, and ask in that spirit, and answers can be given about what the Church teaches. I would like to ask something of all the members on this forum. If you feel you are constantly posting about troubles, problems, sorrows.. if at any length this is only what you post about.. do something different.. require of yourself to use the smilies.. and to post good and happy news, and to see something of light in every darkness. I as your forum administrator not only ask, I even insist upon it.. make an effort to post more happily, and you will find more happiness. 'Where there is no love, put love, and you will find love.' Truly God is everywhere in all the troubles and joys of our lives, though in different ways. And wherever God is, there is a reason for happiness. " which I think can be found online - beautiful& insightful piece of writing . Thanks for the invite - I just might learn a thing or two ! :D

Truly God is everywhere in all the troubles and joys of our lives, though in different ways. And wherever God is, there is a reason for happiness. This call is truly impressive and beautiful. I have yet to see anything like it in a forum. May I be worthy Lord to follow this call when I post here. May my dark and fallen heart not spread darkness through the internet. Congratulations Shin on such an impressive website. I have participated on CA and Fisheaters, getting banned from both. A cyber friend joked that I got kicked out of CAF for being too traditional and FE for not being angry enough. Whatever the cause, I hope to have better luck here. I'm a convert to traditionalism and place high value on the experiences of my elders and the knowledge people of my generation have gained. Our culture is so rich and rewarding yet is virtually unknown to so many. Indeed, it's like someone stole our birthright. May God bless you all, Ockham Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Patricia on February 16, 2011, 03:22:40 PM Hello Ockham

I hope we can be more charitable than to ban you totally. :D I'm so sorry you had that experience. :( This is a friendly and loving family! Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Shin on February 16, 2011, 06:09:52 PM Welcome Ockham! Try out the Introduction and Stop by for Coffee threads if you can! I realize they are both privately owned, but I am disappointed with both CA and Fisheaters. They have so much potential and yet, seem not to be living up to it (in my humble opinion of course). The three information pages on FE are outstanding and helped me immensely while "converting" to traditionalism, however, their forum can get very meanspirited. At least they are honest and upfront about their bias though. Conversely, the Traditional Catholic forum on CAF is obviously a subversive means of subduing the momentum traditionalism has gained in the past few years. It's like they just want to lump all those trouble making traditionals in one place, heavily moderate them while giving free reign to certain progresives who can attack with impunity. In my two years there I can't think of one progressive who got banned in the Traditional forum yet the list of banned traditionals is quite long (and probably distinguished). By their fruits you shall know them. Perhaps I should petition to have the word "Catholic" removed from their title just as hospitals and universities who conspire against the faith are required to. Well, that was quite the rant. Please forgive me...it's been bottled up for quite some time now. I won't speak of them again. I would like to spend some time reading through this site before actively chatting with anyone. In the meantime, I hope your Lenten preparations are going well and may God bless you all. Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Patricia on February 17, 2011, 10:39:21 AM Welcome Ockham, Cat herder and everyone coming over the forum!
Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Patricia on February 17, 2011, 11:33:43 AM I have not been in CA or FE, but the other places I went to I did get the cold shoulder from some of our own Catholic brothers. Especially when I was talking about the Fatima message and a certain traditionalist priest, I was actually asked to stop talking about it by some Catholic brethren and there was even a stalker who replied to all my posts in a very negative way. Bad experiences, but I'm finally happy here at Saintsforum. I found my home. :D
Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Brigid on February 17, 2011, 06:28:30 PM I welcome you both to our family.
I would need to agree that some of the posts and moderation on both CAF and FE were not as I would have wished. That said, I did learn some at both the sites, but am much happier here. The support here is something I have learned to appreciate so very much and the love that comes from our family is precious. Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: martin on February 17, 2011, 07:11:25 PM Welcome Ockham. Welcome Cat herder.
Delighted you' found your way over here. A nice little refuge I think you'll find from the non-stop tit for tat exchanges found on so many forums now. Most of us here are refugees :D Getting holy is what it's all about and you can actually aspire to this here with the help of the saints and with a lot less stress and plenty of support too. Stay around here folks and you'll find this to be true. Again, A big welcome to you both. :angelbell: Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Black Knight on July 05, 2011, 03:03:13 AM :crucifix: I'm here now, and yes you can also find me with this same name on CAF. :)

Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Paul on May 09, 2013, 07:18:42 PM Hi Shin!
I just joined the forum. I'm the guy from CA you PMed about the article on novels. But I have made the decision to leave that forum. There's just so much arguing there, and many of the posts push doubt. I have been led astray by some of those bad posts, and to make a long story short, God let me know that I was going the wrong way. I wasn't really benefitting from CAF, I was just addicted to reading posts and following threads. My conversation with you helped me decide to quit. I've been lurking here for some time, and when I saw the thread on giving up TV, I knew this was the right place. On CAF, that thread would be full of angry libertines defending TV, bad-mouthing the saints, and resorting to name-calling and emotional arguments (I have participated in similar threads there). In fact, I bought a copy of Airwaves From Hell because of it. After reading the posts here, it became clear that this is a better place for people who want to be saints (my goal is to be a saint before I die; I'm 29, and I converted from atheism 2 1/2 years ago, so I hope that gives me enough time). Saints' Books has helped me so much already. And thank you so much for the topics you've brought up here. Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Shin on May 10, 2013, 02:53:27 AM :angelbell: Welcome to the forums Paul! :angelbell:
It's great to have you here. I hope you enjoy the place and join folks for coffee and prayers! I always like it when someone has a new insight or shares a few words about how a quote inspired them. It must be about half a year ago now that Fr. Frank Poncelet passed away. God rest his soul. I hope I have enough time too! I'm so slow! But there's no other way to live than taking that beautiful journey step by step. It's a bit quieter over here, but folks stick around and share priceless words. God keep you my friend. I pray you have a great time here! :D Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Caridad on February 24, 2014, 11:04:42 PM Hello everyone,

I've always loved reading stories about saints, over and over again especially when I feel exhausted by earthly things. Their stories encourage me a lot. :) They love our Lord and the peoples on earth with so much love. I still have a lot to learn from them. My favourite prayer is the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. O Master grant that i may never seek.. :) Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Shin on June 09, 2014, 10:44:40 PM :angelbell: :seraphim: :angelbell:

A beautiful bird isn't it, the white rock dove? I read somewhere that in ancient times, the appearance of snow white dove symbolized peace and holiness. :) Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Shin on November 17, 2014, 02:38:02 PM :cherubim: :angelblue: :angelyellow: :thrones: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums! :thrones: :angelblue: :angelyellow: :cherubim:

I would like to Thank you for this website and the books and resources on here. They are of an Excellent Spiritual nature and much appreciated. You are a very enlightened person. I'll be sending 2 attachments to you shortly through email to administrator@saintsquotes.net that will add to your collection of Spiritual Knowledge which I hope you find Spiritually Satisfying. Thank you. Please keep up the Good Work. I have found a few errors on the book links. Here they are: St. Thomas Aquinas - The Summa Contra Gentiles - Of God and His Creatures 'If then the final happiness of man does not consist in those exterior advantages which are called goods of fortune, nor in goods of the body, nor in goods of the soul in its sentient part, nor in the intellectual part in respect of the moral virtues, nor in the virtues of the practical intellect, called art and prudence, it remains that the final happiness of man consists in the contemplation of truth. This act alone in man is proper to him, and is in no way shared by any other being in this world. This is sought for its own sake, and is directed to no other end beyond itself.' Download PDF - Link not working St. Peter Julian Eymard - Month of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament 'If, then, we desire to be the children of this loving Mother, we must clothe our selves with her modesty. Let us make it the ordinary subject of our meditation, for it is the heritage left us by Mary. Let her modesty be the rule of our virtues. Let her simplicity, which forgets itself to see only God, which inclines to duty rather than to pleasure, to God rather than to His consolation, to love for love, be our portion, the aim of our efforts, and the seal of our life.' Download PDF - Wrong link, link is to St. Peter Julian Eymard - Divine Eucharist Fr. Francis Hunolt - Sermons - Adapted to All Sundays - The Different States in Life - II 'And he adds: "They hold their meetings before the rising sun, and sing hymns to Christ and God." How our Mother, the holy Catholic Church, endeavors to encourage us her children to this practice! All the hymns that priests recite in the divine Office are full of invitations of this kind: "Now that the day has dawned, let us adore God and pray to Him." "Away with sleep; let us rise quickly and seek God in the night, as the Prophet says," "Come, Holy Ghost, and enlighten our senses with Thy light, that our first words may be spoken to Thee, and our mouths may be opened in Thy praise." "To Thee, God, our voices shall first sing, that all our works may begin with Thee." And many more of the same kind; all loving efforts that the Catholic Church makes to exhort and encourage her children to consecrate the first part of the day to prayer and the praises of God. So that, my clear Christians, we must acknowledge and confess that according to the law of justice, to the end of our creation, to the very instinct of nature itself, to the command and will of God, to the example of Jesus Christ and of all true servants of God, to the exhortations of the holy Fathers and to the invitation of our Mother, the holy Catholic Church, we are bound to spend the best and most excellent part of the day, the early morning, in praising God, who is infinitely worthy of all praise and honor.' Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: St. Camillus on December 28, 2016, 11:36:17 PM Hello,
I wanted to join this forum because I think that it is a good thing to highly esteem the teachings of the saints as regards faith and morals, especially when the saints are in universal agreement on something. After all, they are the ones who were closest to God in this life and as a result of their closeness would better know His truths and what He requires us to do to save our souls so that we can enjoy Him and the unseen and unheard of joys and beauty in heaven. I have occasionally lurked this forum and a few other forums and I have always found myself in agreement with Shin when he has posted about immodesty not being appropriate regardless of how few today are obeying God's laws. I saw that Shin posted on this forum that links are not generally permitted because countless websites contain immodest advertisements, and I realized that I am of one mind with Shin, even if out of bad habit I still lurk some forums that sometimes have immodest, or otherwise merely strange and ugly, advertisements that disturb my conscience. One of my resolutions that I have had for the last several months is to spend more of my leisure time reading about the positive things of the faith - Holy Scripture, Catechisms, and the writings of the Saints - and less time reading the news, whether it be secular or church related. I have made some improvements in this respect, but am still far from perfect. My reasoning for my resolution has been my firm conviction that all of the current evils, whether in the political or church realm, can only be resolved by more people studying and living the faith, and that constant chatter about the evils is idle and fruitless. It is not that I think that a man should never inform himself about the news, but it is a matter of proportion and prioritizing. May God bless all the members, and thank you Shin in particular for being an edifying light, standing almost alone amidst the crowd. Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: Shin on December 29, 2016, 04:25:26 AM :cherubim: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums St. Camillus! :cherubim:
You have picked a great saint's name there. It's quite an interesting life he lived! I remember enjoying reading about him, he had a rough time of it, what a fellow. :farmer: It sounds like you're making some great progress separating yourself from the world and developing the habit of loving the virtuous life! We really have to love virtue and be happy with it to be able to separate ourselves as we always seek something or other to find some kind of fulfillment. It's great to mortify the curiosity and cut out a lot of time wasters. The more I mortify my curiosity the happier I am in the long run, a clean mind is full of happier thoughts and able to meditate on virtuous things without as much chaff and distraction. And if you think a site is going to have any images with problems, but you still have a sufficiently good reason to go -- 'turn images off' before visiting it. There are add on buttons for that for some browsers. It may be clunkier but the safety of our minds is paramount! In this winter season it's just about the time the seed catalogs all start getting sent out to the gardening folks. That means it's time to plan even if the ground is frozen and snowstorms predicted ahead! I can't garden now.. but I can enjoy the time planning. And I can read about the meanings of plants and their spiritual meanings and medicinal uses to help enjoy my time when I'm not renovating the home. And I can gather quotes for the website and try to review more books to see if they can be included. I pray you enjoy your time here! It's a little quiet but when folks put in a little effort to find holy quotes to share it's always a happy time reading and nourishes the soul. It's great too sharing a bit about our lives in the Daily Life threads. I hope you stop by those threads too! We could all use more good companions on this journey! :D Title: Re: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums Post by: St. Camillus on January 02, 2017, 06:02:50 PM :cherubim: Welcome to the Saints' Discussion Forums St. Camillus! :cherubim: You have picked a great saint's name there. I have a book called Saints for Sinners by an Archbishop Goodier which has a chapter about St. Camillus that really moved me when I read it. It is encouraging to know that even people with not the best backgrounds can become great saints. Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto... I do not know too much about gardening, but I hope that you have a good time planning and preparing. |
