Title: Trust - Bold Confidence in Him
Post by: Brigid on August 18, 2010, 06:35:49 PM
My way is all of trust and love. I don't understand souls who fear so tender a Friend.

I'm going to put this saying up all over my place and maybe it will sink in. :-[

I see His tenderness in the most unexpected moments in life. When I'm feeling very blue and I least expect any consolation. Then His Mercy and love shines through. O:)

For me, this says it all!  Even as divine judge, I have no fear because He knows me so well and my weakness.  How great is our Lord!

not bad for a liberal, right?   :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hey, but that doesn't mean one becomes a slacky; the danger of being too overconfident, you know.  Sometimes it's not good to be fearless.  Why, I can get so cocky that I go just waltzing right into  trouble.   ;)

Not bad at all Baily2 and well in tune with the saints. :)

If the devil tempts me by the thought of Divine justice, I think of God's mercy;
if he tries to fill me with presumption by the thought of His mercy, I think of His justice.

What pleases the good God in my little soul is to see me love my littleness and my poverty; it is seeing the blind trust that I have in His Mercy.

Blind trust in His Mercy - we know intellectually It's there for us, but our heart and actions don't match that knowledge.

I read an article about this not so long ago. It was making the distinction between trusting in God's mercy and the sin of presumption. The former being a great aid to advancing in holiness whereby we never give up the good fight but rather return to God with a contrite heart with a renewed resolve to live a holy life ; the latter being a desire to continue in ones sin believing that God's mercy will be forthcoming without any effort on our part to amend our lives.

Perfect Trust

Oh, for the peace of a perfect trust,
My loving God, in thee;
Unwavering faith that never doubts
Thou chooses best for me!
Best, though my plans be all upset;
Best, though the way be rough;
Best, though my earthly store be scant;
In Thee I have enough.
Best, though my health and strength be gone,
Though weary days be mine,
Shut out from much that others have;
Not my will, Lord, but Thine.
And even though disappointments come,
They, too, are best for me,
To wean me from this changing world,
And lead me nearer Thee.
Oh, for the peace of a perfect trust
That looks away from all;
That sees thy hand in everything,
In great events or small.
That hears Thy voice - A Father's voice -
Directing for the best.
Oh, for the peace of a perfect trust,
A heart with Thee at rest.

Traditional prayer as presented in Saint Dymphna (green book) by Fr. Lawrence Lovasik
