Title: St. Bruno's Day
Post by: Shin on October 06, 2010, 11:36:31 AM
There are many fine saints today, St. Mary Frances of the Five Wounds of Christ, St. Epiphania, St. Faith, St. Aurea, and further.. !

And also.. St. Bruno, who with St. Hugh founded the Carthusians.. :D

O Happy Day!

I will add the from Dom Augustin later today, God willing..  :D

'The Lord created all mortals in the light, offering the supreme joys of heaven according to their merits.

Blessed is the one who without straying directs his soul toward those heights and is vigilant to preserve himself from all evil.

Blessed again is the one who repents after sinning and often weeps because of his fault.

Alas! People live as though death did not follow life, as if hell were only an unfounded fable, though burning embrace.

Mortals, have a care that you live, all of you, in such a way that you do not have to fear the lake of hell.'

St. Bruno

It was informative to learn that Bruno was a member of the prominent Hartenfaust family.
Bruno was brought to Rome in 1090 by Pope Urban II, who he had taught at Rheims,
as Papal Adviser in the reformation of the clergy.

In 1056 Bishop Gervais recalled Bruno to Reims.
In 1057 Bruno became head of the Episcopal school, which at the time
included the direction of the schools and the oversight of all the educational establishments of the diocese.

On the verge of being made bishop himself, Bruno instead followed a vow he had made to renounce
secular concerns and withdrew, along with two of his friends, Raoul and Fulcius, also canons of Reims.

Bruno led the episcopal school in Reims for nearly two decades. Among his students
was Eudes of Chatillon, afterwards Pope Urban II.
