Title: Quote for the Day: Work
Post by: Shin on October 24, 2010, 01:19:37 PM
'The number of the elect is so small - so small - that were we to know how small it is, we should faint away with grief. The number of the elect is so small that were God to assemble them together, He would cry to them, as He did of old by the mouth of His prophet, "Gather yourselves together, one by one" one from this province, one from that kingdom.'

St. Louis Marie de Montfort

'We must never lose sight of the fact that we are either saints or outcasts, that we must love for Heaven or for Hell; there is no middle path in this.'

St. Jean Marie Baptiste Vianney, the Cure of Ars

'Do not say: "I don't want it, but it happens." For even though you may not want the thing itself, yet you welcome what causes it.'

St. Mark the Ascetic

St. Mark the Ascetic

Well blow me down..  Don't this perfectly sum up the attitude in today's world?

I want to be respected for who I am but I keep dressing the way that makes everyone judge me on how I look.

I want my children to be obedient and to know right from wrong but I'm not prepared to deprive them of their favorite TV programs that teach them how to rebel.

I don't want to end up in hell but I'm not prepared to give up the sins that will lead me there.

That's just a few that come to mind.

Yes, it's a quote that covers a good deal..

By the way I have some good news.

God willing, the forum appearance, as in how it looks should be improved shortly.

I will hopefully have it working soon and everyone can decide if they like the new view or not. :D

These quotes above.. well.. one after another.. they what is the word? Challenge? There's a word.. call to judgement? I can't think of the right word.. they're like a stick that strikes away the chaff from a person's viewpoints, the excuses, the thoughts..

And so a person has to get up again and think from the basics.. purity of intention.. penance.. living like Christ.. without excuses.. instead turning to God when it is tough to do good.. rather than turning away.

God help me, and God help us all.. Kyrie eleison, Christi eleision, Kyrie eleision.. Agnus dei..

When I think of St. Mark's quote, I keep thinking -- enough trying, start doing..

Another quote I heard once, where I do not recall, "We do what we want to do."

There may be pressure, there may be reasons, but in the end we choose to do what we want to do.

Two choices present themselves to us, we choose the one we want. Oh, we may intellectually prefer the other in some aspects, but in the real world, we do what we want.

I think of that, and I think of Romans 7:14, in contrast, and I think about the different ways each can be.

O Martin, I think the new look is truly beautiful..

I am very hopeful for finishing the programming for it, I have not tested it out in all the ways necessary.

I love the spartan look in its way, very monkly.. when I think of endless white space... I love this..

And so the websites are very spartan on images.. for a variety of reasons..

But I think the changes will be beneficial despite this love of mine.

That is so true Shin.. No matter what excuses we make we really do act as we want. I think the first grace that God gives us is the "want" to do the right thing. Even for this we are totally dependant on Him. As Padre Pio said, "We can't even have one good thought unless the Lord inspires it."

Thanks and praise be to God that He doesn't abandon us to our own devices but come to our aid with His grace.  :+:

So far I really like it, Shin. I'm not able to elucidate as to why, but I do like it much better.

Sometimes words aren't necessary.. :D Or at least, the few like the above are all that's needed.

Shin the more I look at that image above, the more I want to be there.
It is truly what life is all about.
