Title: The Perpetual Rosary at Saints
Post by: odhiambo on September 07, 2014, 09:15:49 AM
This is a thread for an ongoing Rosary. Post each prayer as you say them. When it comes to the mysteries, any meditations that can help the others are also welcomed. You can be brief, with just one prayer or you can take time and say more of the prayers. The next poster will pick up where you leave off.
The order of the Mysteries will be as follows:
1:The Joyful Mysteries
2: The Sorrowful Mysteries
3: The Glorious Mysteries
May the Lord be with us and protect us.
and may Our Lady smile on us and
accept our Perpetual Crowns of Roses   :crucifix:

The Apostles' Creed.

I believe in God
 the Father Almighty,
 Creator of heaven and earth;
 and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
He was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
 On the third day He arose again from the dead;
 He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
 the communion of saints,
 the forgiveness of sins,
 the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

The First  Joyful Mystery:

Announcement of the Birth of Jesus.

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary
And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply, “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

LK 1:26-38

The Annunciation.

Let us meditate on this mystery.

"This day (the Annunciation) is the beginning of our salvation. On this day the Son of God, who was anterior to all time, becomes the Son of Man. This day is the beginning of the restoration of human nature, and of the blotting out of the sin of creation. On this day our nature has been sanctified by the indwelling in it of its Creator. On this day it has been raised to the dignity of holding dominion over archangels. On this day the time predicted by the prophets is fully come. This is the day which saints have desired to see. On this day Adam has built a temple for his Creator in one of his own daughters, in which He might deign to dwell concealed, and thus become our Redeemer. This temple is Mary, the virgin; precious, blessed, and holy, the pure and stainless offshoot of Adam's nature, the Queen of the whole family of men. So pure that none can be found purer in the whole human race; so holy that none among all intelligent creatures shall ever surpass her in holiness. She is the glory of the people of Israel, and the light of the house of David. This is she, the Beauty whose purity the Heavenly King desired, sending to her His ministering spirit Gabriel to salute her with a salutation of great joy, and to acquaint her that she has been chosen by her Creator, saying, "Hail full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women!"'
St. John Damascene

:crucifix:

"What greater mercy could there be toward the miserable than that which pulled the Creator down from heaven and clothed the Founder of the earth in an earthly body!
"This made the One Who abides equal in eternity to the Father, equal to us in mortality, imposing the form of a servant on the Lord of the world; so that Bread itself would be hungry, Fullness would be thirsty, Strength would become weak, Health would be wounded, and Life would die!"
Saint Augustine

THE SECOND JOYFUL MYSTERY:

THE VISITATION.

Let us meditate on this Mystery

Title: Re: The Perpertual Rosary at Saints
Post by: odhiambo on September 12, 2014, 08:25:37 AM
Mary Visits Elizabeth.

During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”
Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home.

Luke 1:39-45, 56

Mary’s Visitation of Elizabeth
St. Ambrose of Milan
Church Father and Doctor of the Church

When the angel revealed his message to the Virgin Mary
he gave her a sign to win her trust. He told her of the
motherhood of an old and barren woman to show that God is able to do all thathe wills. When she hears this Mary sets out for the hill country.
She does not disbelieve God’s word; she feels no uncertainty over the
message or doubt about the sign. She goes eager in purpose,
dutiful in conscience, hastening for joy.
Filled with God, where would she hasten but to the heights? The
Holy Spirit does not proceed by slow, laborious efforts. Quickly,
too, the blessings of her coming and the Lord’s presence are
made clear: as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting the child
leapt in her womb, and she was filled with the Holy Spirit
Notice the contrast and the choice of words. Elizabeth is the first
to hear Mary’s voice, but John is the first to be aware of grace.
She hears with the ears of the body, but he leaps for joy at the
meaning of the mystery. She is aware of Mary’s presence,
but he is aware of the Lord’s: a woman aware of a woman’s presence, the forerunner aware of the pledge of our salvation. The women speak of the
grace they have received while the children are active in secret, unfolding the mystery of love with the help of their mothers, who prophesy by the spirit of their sons.
The child leaps I the womb; the mother is filled with
the Holy Spirit, but not before herson. Once the son has been filled with the Holy Spirit, he fills his mother with the same
Spirit. John leaps for joy, and the spirit of Mary rejoices in her turn. When John leaps for joy Elizabeth is filled with the Holy Spirit, but we
know that though Mary’s spirit rejoices,
she does not need to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Her son, who is beyond our
understanding, is active in his mother in a way beyondour understanding. Elizabeth is filled with the Holly Spirit after conceiving John, while Mary is filled with the Holy Spirit before conceiving the Lord. Elizabeth says:
Blessed are you because you have believed.

You also are blessed because you have heard and believed. A soul that believes both conceives and brings forth the Word of God and acknowledges his works.

Third Joyful Mystery.

The Birth of Our Lord

Let us meditate on this Mystery

Title: Re: The Perpertual Rosary at Saints
Post by: odhiambo on September 13, 2014, 02:32:37 PM

The Birth of Jesus.
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus* that the whole world should be enrolled.
This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.
And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,a
to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.b
While they were there, the time came for her to have her child,
and she gave birth to her firstborn son.* She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.c
Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.d
The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.
And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest
and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”
Luke 2:1-14
:crucifix:
“It was the Lord who directed Augustus to give this edict, that he might minister to the coming of the Only-begotten; for it was this edict that brought Christ's mother into her country as the prophets had foretold, namely, to Bethlehem of Judea, according to the word, to a city of David, which is called Bethlehem.”
 St. John Chrysostom

:crucifix:
“Bethlehem is by interpretation the house of bread. For it is the Lord Himself who says, I am the bread of life which came down from heaven. The place therefore where the Lord was born was before called the house of bread, because it was there that He was to appear in His fleshly nature who should refresh the souls of the elect with spiritual fullness.”
 St. Gregory the Great
:crucifix:
Now here was no midwife, no tender anxiety of women; she wrapped the Child up in swaddling clothes, herself both mother and midwife.
Saint Jerome
:crucifix:
'My dearest Saviour, Thou art the King of Heaven, the King of kings, the Son of God; and how is it, then, that I see Thee in this cave, forsaken by all? I see no one assisting Thee but Joseph and Thy holy Mother.
I desire to unite myself also to them in keeping Thee company.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

The Fourth Joyful Mystery:
The Presentation

When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord,
just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,”
and to offer the sacrifice of “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,” in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.
Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him.
It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord.
He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him,
he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:
“Now, Master, you may let your servant go
in peace, according to your word,
for my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you prepared in sight of all the peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and glory for your people Israel.”
The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him;
and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted
(and you yourself a sword will pierce)* so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
Luke 2: 22-35
:crucifix:

Simeon received a promise from God that he should not die until he had seen the Messiah born: "And he had received an answer from the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord." But he did not receive this grace except by means of Mary, for he did not see the Saviour until he saw him in the arms of Mary. Hence, whoever wishes to find Jesus, will not find him except through Mary. Let us, then, go to this divine mother if we wish to find Jesus; and let us go with great confidence. Mary said to her servant Prudentiana Zagnoni, that every year, on this day of the purification, a great mercy would be shown to some sinner. Who knows but one of us may today be that favored sinner?'

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

 :crucifix:

'Mary, I repeat, already knew all the sufferings that her Son was to endure, but in the above quoted words of St. Simon: "And thy own soul a sword shall pierce," as the Lord revealed to St. Theresa, all the minute circumstances of the external as well as internal sufferings which her Lord Jesus was to endure in his passion, were made known to her. She con sented to all with a firmness which made the angels wonder, and pronounced the sentence that her Son should die, and die by a death so ignominious and painful, in these words: Eternal Father, since thou dost will it, not my will, but thine be done: "Non mea voluntas, sed tua fiat;" I unite mine to thy holy will, and sacrifice to thee this my Son; I am satisified that he should lose his life for thy glory, and for the salvation of the world. And I also sacrifice to thee my heart; let grief pierce it as much as pleases thee; it suffices to me that thou, oh my God, art glorified and satisfied; not my will, but thine be done. Oh, charity without measure! oh, constancy without example! oh, victory, that merits the eternal admiration of heaven and of earth!'

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

The Fifth Joyful Mystery

The Finding of Jesus in the Temple.

Meditation.

'And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch, and when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast, and having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not. And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day's journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance. And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers. And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father's business? And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.'

Luke 2:41-51

:crucifix:

'Oh blessed Virgin, why art thou afflicted, seeking thy lost Son? Is it because thou dost not know where he is? But dost thou not know that he is in thy heart? Dost thou not see that he is feeding among the lilies? Thou thyself hast said it: "My beloved to me and I to him who feedeth among the lilies." These, thy humble, pure, and holy thoughts and affections, are all lilies, that invite the divine spouse to dwell with thee. Ah, Mary, dost thou sigh after Jesus, thou who lovest none but Jesus? Leave sighing to me and so many other sinners who do not love him, and who have lost him by offending him. My most amiable mother, if through my fault thy Son hast not yet returned to my soul, wilt thou obtain for me that I may find him. I know well that he allows himself to be found by all who seek him: The Lord is good to the soul that seeketh him: "Bonus est Dominus . . . animae quaerenti illum." Make me to seek him as I ought to seek him. Thou art the gate through which all find Jesus; through the I too hope to find him.'

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

:crucifix:

'If the Lord departs from the sight of that soul who loves him, he does not therefore depart from the heart. He often hides himself that she may seek him with greater desire and love. But those who would find Jesus must seek him, not amid the delights and pleasures of the world, but amid crosses and mortifications, as Mary sought him: We sought thee sorrowing, as she said to her Son: "Dolentes quaerebamus te." Learn from Mary to seek Jesus, says Origen: "Disce a Maria quaerere Jesum."'

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:

First Sorrowful Mystery.

The Agony in the Garden.

Meditation:

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
He took along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to feel sorrow and distress.
Then he said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with me.”
He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as I will, but as you will.”
When he returned to his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?
Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Withdrawing a second time, he prayed again, “My Father, if it is not possible that this cup pass without my drinking it, your will be done!”
Then he returned once more and found them asleep, for they could not keep their eyes open.
He left them and withdrew again and prayed a third time, saying the same thing again.
w Then he returned to his disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand when the Son of Man is to be handed over to sinners.
Get up, let us go. Look, my betrayer is at hand.”

Matt. 26:36-46
:crucifix:

"He began to be heavy, He began to feel a great weariness on account of the torments that were prepared for Him." When one is weary, even pleasures are painful. Oh, what anguish united to this weariness must Jesus Christ have felt at the horrible representation which then came before his mind, of all the torments, both exterior and interior, which, during the short remainder of his life, were so cruelly to afflict his body and his blessed soul!'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:

'Ah, my loving Jesus, I do not behold in this garden either scourges or thorns or nails that pierce Thee; how, then, is it that I see Thee all bathed in blood from Thy head to Thy feet? Alas, my sins were the cruel press which, by dint of affliction and sorrow, drew so much blood from Thy heart. I was, then, one of Thy most cruel executioners, who contributed the most to crucify Thee with my sins. It is certain that, if I had sinned less, Thou, my Jesus, wouldst have suffered less. As much pleasure, therefore, as I have taken in offending Thee, so much the more did I increase the sorrow of Thy heart, already full of anguish. How, then, does not this thought make me die of grief, when I see that I have repaid the love Thou hast shown me in Thy Passion by adding to Thy sorrow and suffering? I, then, have tormented this heart, so loving and so worthy of love, which has shown so much love to me. My Lord, since I have now no otiier means left of consoling Thee than to weep over my offences towards Thee, I will now, my Jesus, sorrow for them and lament over them with my whole heart.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:

'Then did all the sufferings he was to endure pass distinctly before his eyes, as well as all the insults that he should endure from the Jews and from the Romans; all the injustice of which the judges of his cause would be guilty towards him; and, above all, he had before him the vision of that death of desolation which he should have to endure, forsaken by all, by men and by God, in the midst of a sea of sufferings and contempt. And this it was that caused him so heavy grief that he was obliged to pray for consolation to his eternal Father. O my Jesus! I compassionate Thee, I thank Thee, and I love Thee.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

:crucifix:

'"And there appeared to Him an angel. . . strengthening Him," Strength came, but, says the Venerable Bede, this rather increased than lightened his sufferings: "Strength did not diminish, but increased his sorrow." Yes, for the angel strengthened him, that he might suffer still more for the love of men and the glory of his Father.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:

'Oh, what sufferings did not this first combat bring Thee, my beloved Lord! During the progress of Thy Passion, the scourges, the thorns, the nails, came one after the other to torment Thee. But in the garden all the sufferings of Thy whole Passion assaulted Thee all together and tormented Thee. And Thou didst accept all for my sake and my good. O my God! how much I regret not having loved Thee in times past, and having preferred my own accursed pleasures to Thy will!'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:

'Was it not he who had so much desired this hour of his Passion, and who had said shortly before, With desire have I desired to eat this Pasch with you? And yet how is it that he was seized with such a fear of death, that he even prayed his Father to deliver him from it? My Father if it be possible let this chalice pass from Me. The Venerable Bede answers this, and says, "He prays that the chalice may pass from him, in order to show that he was truly man." He, our loving Saviour, chose indeed to die for us in order by his death to prove to us the love that he bore us; but in order that men might not suppose that he had assumed a fantastic body (as some heretics have blasphemously asserted), or that by virtue of his divinity he had died without suffering any pain, He therefore made this prayer to his heavenly Father, not indeed with a view of being heard, but to give us to understand that he died as man, and afflicted with a great fear of death and of the sufferings which should accompany his death.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
'Behold, our most loving Saviour, having come to the Garden of Gethsemani, did of his own accord make a beginning of his bitter Passion by giving full liberty to the passions of fear, of weariness, and of sorrow to come and afflict him with all their torments: He began to fear; and to be heavy, to grow sorrowfull, and to be sad.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
'My most loving Saviour, who when weighed down with faintness and grief of heart, in the garden of Gethsemani, didst turn in fervent prayer to the Eternal Father, while the drops of Thy bloody sweat ran down profusely to the ground; grant me the grace that, in memory of Thy most holy passion, I may, at least, shed abundant tears of grief and contrition, as Thou Thy bloody sweat of agony that night. Amen.'
St. Leonard of Port Maurice
:crucifix:

It was, above all, according to some saints, during His bloody Agony in Gethsemani, that Our Lord repaired for the sins of thought. Are those sins, then, so grave? Yes. . .'
St. Peter Julian Eymard
:crucifix:

'But let us take heart. . . Let us glance at the Divine Master who prayed in the Garden and we will discover the true ladder which unites the earth to Heaven. We will discover that humility, contrition and prayer make the distance between man and God disappear, and act in such a way that God descends to man, and man ascends to God, so that they end up understanding, loving and possessing one another.'
St. Padre Pio
:crucifix:

The Second Sorrowful Mystery: The Scourging

Christ is scourged at the pillar.

Meditation:

"Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” They only shouted the louder, “Crucify him.”
So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them and, after he had Jesus scourged, handed him over to be crucified."
MK 15:14–15
:crucifix:
"Let us enter into the praetorium of Pilate, one day made the horrible scene of the ignominies and pains of Jesus: let us see how unjust, how shameful, how cruel, was the punishment there inflicted on the Saviour of the world. Pilate, seeing that the Jews continued to make a tumult against Jesus, as a most unjust judge condemned him to be scourged: Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him. The iniquitous judge thought by means of this barbarity to win for him the compassion of his enemies, and thus to deliver him from death: I will chastise Him (he said) and let Him go. Scourging was the chastisement inflicted on slaves only. Therefore, says St. Bernard, our loving Redeemer willed to take the form, not only of a slave, in order to subject himself to the will of others, but even of a bad slave in order to be chastised with scourges, and so to pay the penalty due from man, who had made himself the slave of sin: "Taking not only the form of a slave, that he might submit, but even of a bad slave, that he might be beaten and suffer the punishment of the slave of sin."

The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori

:crucifix:
"Cruel in excess to our Redeemer was this torture of his scourging in the first place, because of the great number of those by whom it was inflicted; who, as was revealed to St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi, were not fewer than sixty. And these, at the instigation of the devils, and even more so of the priests, who were afraid lest Pilate should, after this punishment, be minded to release the Lord, as he had already protested to them, saying, I will therefore scourge Him, and let Him go,[11] aimed at taking away his life by means of this scourging. Again, all theologians agree with St. Bonaventure that, for this purpose, the sharpest implements were selected, so that, as St. Anselm declares, every stroke produced a wound; and that the number of the strokes amounted to several thousand, the flagellation being administered, as Father Crasset says, not after the manner of the Jews, for whom the Lord had forbidden that the number of strokes should ever exceed forty: Yet so, that they exceed not the number of forty; lest thy brother depart shamefully torn; but after the manner of the Romans, with whom there was no measure"

The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori
:crucifix:

"And so it is related by Josephus, the Jew, who lived shortly after our Lord, that Jesus was torn in his scourging to such a degree that the bones of his ribs were laid bare; as it was also revealed by the most Holy Virgin to St. Bridget, in these words: "I, who was standing by, saw his body scourged to the very ribs, so that his ribs themselves might be seen. And what was even yet more bitter still, when the scourges were drawn back, his flesh was furrowed by them."To St. Teresa, Jesus revealed himself in his scourging; so that the saint wished to have him painted exactly as she had seen him, and told the painter to represent a large piece of flesh torn off, and hanging down from the left elbow; but when the painter inquired as to the shape in which he ought to paint it, he found, on turning round again to his picture, the piece of flesh already drawn. Ah, my beloved and adored Jesus, how much hast Thou suffered for love of me ! Oh, let not so many pangs, and so much blood, be lost for me!"
The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori
:crucifix:

"Ah, my Lord, great is my happiness in understanding how much Thou hast loved me, and that Thou dost even now preserve for me the same love that Thou didst bear me then, in the time of Thy Passion! But how great is my sorrow at the thought of having offended so good a God! By the merit of Thy scourging, O my Jesus, I ask Thy pardon, I repent, above every other evil, of having offended Thee; and I purpose rather to die than to offend Thee again. Pardon me all the wrongs that I have done Thee, and give me the grace ever to love Thee for the time to come."

The Third Sorrowful Mystery:
 The Crowning with Thorns
Meditation.

Mockery by the Soldiers.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus inside the praetorium  and gathered the whole cohort around him.
They stripped off his clothes and threw a scarlet military cloak about him.
Weaving a crown out of thorns, they placed it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
They spat upon him and took the reed and kept striking him on the head.
And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the cloak, dressed him in his own clothes, and led him off to crucify him.
(Mt. 27:27–31)
:crucifix:
And platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon His head. It was a good reflection of the devout Lanspergius that this torture of the crown of thorns was one most full of pain; inasmuch as they everywhere pierced into the sacred head of the Lord, the most sensitive part, it being from the head that all the nerves and sensations of the body diverge; while it was also that torture of his Passion which lasted the longest, as Jesus suffered from the thorns up to his death, remaining, as they did, fixed in his head. Every time that the thorns on his head were touched, the anguish was renewed afresh. And the common opinion of authors agrees with that of St. Vincent Ferrer that the crown was intertwined with several branches of thorns, and fashioned like a helmet or hat, so that it fitted upon the whole of the head, down to the middle of the forehead; according to the revelation made to St. Bridget: " The crown of thorns embraced his head most tightly, and came down as low as the middle of the forehead."

The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori
:crucifix:
Ah, my Jesus! no, Thou hast not deserved that I should have treated Thee as I have done. I have done evil; I have been in the wrong; I am sorry for it with all my heart. Oh, pardon me, and give me a sorrow which may make me bewail all my life long the wrongs that I have done Thee. My Jesus, my Jesus, pardon me, wishing, as I do, to love Thee forever.

The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori
:crucifix:
And bowing the knee before Him, they derided Him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews: and spitting upon Him, they took a reed, and smote Him upon the head. St. John adds, And they gave Him blows. When those barbarians had placed upon the head of Jesus that crown of torture, it was not enough for them to press it down as forcibly as they could with their hands, but they took a reed to answer the purpose of a hammer, that so they might make the thorns penetrate the more deeply. They then began to turn him into derision, as if he had been a mock king; first of all saluting him on their bended knee as King of the Jews; and then, rising up, they spit into his face, and buffeted him with shouts and jests of scorn. Ah, my Jesus, to what art Thou reduced!

The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori
:crucifix:
Ah, my dear Redeemer, take back a rebellious servant who has run away from Thee, but who now returns to Thee in penitence. While I was fleeing from Thee and despising Thy love, Thou didst not cease from following after me to draw me back to Thyself; and therefore I cannot fear that Thou wilt drive me away now that I seek Thee, value Thee, and love Thee above everything. Make known to me what I have to do to please Thee; wishing, as I do, to do it all. O my most lovely God, I wish to love Thee in earnest; and I desire to give Thee no displeasure more. Aid me with Thy grace. Let me not leave Thee more. Mary, my hope, pray to Jesus for me. Amen.

The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery
The Carrying of the Cross
Jesus struggles up Calvary with his own cross on his shoulders.

Scripture
John 19:16-22

Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus, and carrying the cross himself he went out to what is called the Place of the Skull, in Hebrew, Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus in the middle.  Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, “Jesus the Nazorean, the King of the Jews.” Now many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that he said, ‘I am the King of the Jews.’” Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
:crucifix:
Pilate delivers over the innocent Lamb into the hands of those wolves, to do with him what they will: But he delivered Jesus up to their will. These ministers of Satan seize hold of him fiercely; they strip him of the purple garment, as is suggested to them by the Jews, and put his own raiment again upon him: They stripped Him of the purple garment, and clothed Him in His own raiment, and led Him away to crucify Him. And this they did, says St. Ambrose, in order that Jesus might be recognized, at least, by his apparel; his beautiful face being so much disfigured with blood and wounds, that in other apparel it would have been difficult for him to have been recognized as the person he was: "They put on him his own raiment, that he might the better be recognized by all; since, as his face was all bloody and disfigured, it would not have been an easy matter for all to have recognized him." They then take two rough beams, and of them they quickly construct the cross, the length of which was fifteen feet, as St. Bonaventure says, with St. Anselm, and they lay it upon the shoulders of the Redeemer.
The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori
:crucifix:
But Jesus did not wait, says St. Thomas of Villanova, for the executioner to lay the cross upon him; of his own accord he stretched forth his hands, and eagerly laid hold of it, and placed it upon his own wounded shoulders: "He waited not till the soldier should lay it upon him, but he grasped hold of it joyfully." Come, he then said, come, my beloved cross ; it is now three-and-thirty years that I am sighing and searching for thee. I embrace thee, I clasp thee to my heart, for thou art the altar upon which it is my will to sacrifice my life out of love for my flock.
The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori
:crucifix:
Ah, my Jesus, and who am I that thou wishest to have me for a follower of Thine, and commandest me to love Thee, and if I will not love Thee, threatenest me with hell? And why, I will say to Thee, with St. Augustine, shouldst Thou hold out to me the threat of eternal miseries? For what greater misery could befall me than that of not loving Thee, O most lovely God, my Creator, my Redeemer, my paradise, my all? I see that, as a just chastisement of my offences against Thee, I should have deserved to be condemned to the inability of ever loving Thee more; but because Thou dost still love me, Thou dost continue to command me to love Thee, evermore repeating to my heart, Thou shalt love the Lord Thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. I thank Thee, O my love, for this sweet precept; and in order to obey Thee, I do love Thee with all my heart, with all my soul, and with all my mind. I repent of not having loved Thee in time past. At this moment I would rather choose to undergo every suffering than live without loving Thee, and I purpose evermore to seek Thy love. Help me, O my Jesus, to be ever making acts of love towards Thee, and to depart out of this life while making an act of love, that so I may come to love Thee, face to face, in Paradise, where I shall ever after love Thee without imperfection and without interruption, with all my powers, for all eternity. O Mother of God, pray for me. Amen.
The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ
St. Alphonsus de Liguori

 The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery
The Crucifixion
Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies.

Scripture
Lk 23:33–46

When they reached the place called ‘The Skull’, they crucified Him there and the two criminals also, one on the right and the other on the left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing.” Then they cast lots to share out His clothing.

The people stayed there watching Him. As for the leaders, they jeered at Him. “He saved others,” they said, “let Him save Himself if He is the Christ of God, the chosen one.” The soldiers mocked Him too, and when they approached to offer Him vinegar they said, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself.” Above Him there was an inscription: ‘This is the King of the Jews’.

One of the criminals hanging there abused Him. “Are you not the Christ?” he said, “Save yourself and us as well.” But the other spoke up and rebuked him. “Have you no fear of God at all? You got the same sentence as He did, but in our case we deserved it; we are paying for what we did. But this Man has done nothing wrong. Jesus.” he said, “remember me when you come into Your Kingdom.” “Indeed, I promise you,” He replied, “today you will be with Me in paradise.”

It was now about the sixth hour and, with the sun eclipsed, a darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. The veil of the Temple was torn right down the middle; and when Jesus had cried out in a loud voice, He said, “Father, into Your hands I commit my Spirit.” With these words, He breathed His last.
:crucifix:
'The Lord having, with great difficulty, at length reached the top of the Mount alive, they violently, for the third time, tear his clothes from off him, sticking, as they did, to the sores upon his wounded flesh, and they throw him down upon the cross. The divine lamb stretches himself out upon that bed of torment; he reaches forth to the executioners his hands and his feet to be nailed; and raising his eyes to heaven, he offers up to his Eternal Father the great sacrifice of his life for the salvation of men.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
'Jesus, by the mouth of the Prophet, made lamentation that, when dying upon the cross, he went in search of some one to console him, but found none: And I looked for one that would comfort Me, and I found none. The Jews and the Romans, even while he was dying, uttered against him their execrations and blasphemies. The Host Holy Mary -- yes, she stood beneath the cross, in order to afford him some relief, had it been in her power to do so; but this afflicted and loving Mother, by the sorrow which she suffered through sympathy with his pains, only added to the affliction of this her Son, who loved her so dearly. St. Bernard says that the pains of Mary all went towards increasing the torments of the Heart of Jesus: "The Mother being filled with it, the ocean of her sorrow poured itself back upon the Son."' So that the Redeemer, in beholding Mary sorrowing thus, felt his soul pierced more by the sorrows of Mary than by his own ; as was revealed to St. Bridget by the Blessed Virgin herself: "He, on beholding me, grieved more for me than for himself." Whence St. Bernard says, "O good Jesus, great as are Thy bodily suffferings, much more dost Thou suffer in Thy Heart through compassion for Thy Mother."'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
'Now he leans his weight upon his hands, now upon his feet; but on what part soever he leans, the anguish increases He turns his afflicted head, now on one side, now on the other: if he lets it fall towards his breast, the hands, by the additional weight, are rent the more; if he lowers it towards his shoulders, the shoulders are pierced with the thorns; if he leans it back upon the cross, the thorns enter the more deeply into the head.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
'O my Jesus, when I behold Thee upon this tree, I find nothing in Thee from head to foot but pain and sorrow.'
St. Bernard
'O my soul, behold thy Lord, behold thy life, hanging upon that tree: And thy life shall be, as it were, hanging before thee. [Deut. xxviii. 66]'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:

 The First Glorious Mystery
The Resurrection
Jesus rises from the dead three days after his crucifixion.

Scripture
Matthew 28:1-8

After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men. Then the angel said to the women in reply, “Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ Behold, I have told you.” Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples.
:crucifix:

'Ah, my buried Jesus, I kiss the Stone that encloses Thee. But Thou didst rise again the third day. I beseech Thee, by Thy resurrection, make me rise glorious with Thee at the last day, to be always united with Thee in heaven, to praise Thee, and love Thee forever. I love Thee, and I repent of ever having offended Thee. Permit not that I ever offend Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee; and then do with me what Thou wilt.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

:crucifix:
'Let us consider the glory of our Redeemer when he arose from the sepulchre, after having vanquished Satan, and delivered the human race from bondage. How great is the folly of the sinner who, having been once delivered from the tyranny of the devil, consents to become again his slave for some wretched gain or some miserable pleasure of this world! Let us pray to the Blessed Virgin to unite us by love so closely to Jesus Christ that we may never again by mortal sin become the slaves of Lucifer.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
'Jesus Christ, then, rose with the glory of possessing all power in heaven and earth, not as God alone, but as a man; wherefore all angels and men are subject to him. Let us rejoice in thus seeing in glory our Saviour, our Father, and the best friend that we possess. And let us rejoice for ourselves, because the resurrection of Jesus Christ is for us a sure pledge of our own resurrection, and of the glory that we hope one day to have in heaven, both in soul and in body. This hope gave courage to the holy martyrs to suffer with gladness all the evils of this life, and the most cruel torments of tyrants. We must rest assured, however, that none will rejoice with Jesus Christ but they who are willing to suffer in this world with him. . .'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
'The Lord is called light, life, resurrection and truth (cf. John 8:12; 11:25; 14:6). He is light because He gives lucidity to the soul, dispels the darkness of ignorance, illumines the intellect so that it can grasp what is unutterable, and reveals mysteries per¬ceptible only to the pure. He is life because He gives souls who love Him the activity proper to the divine realm. He is resurrection because He raises the intellect from its lethal attachment to material things and purifies it from all decay and mortality. He is truth be¬cause He gives to those found worthy an unchanging state of sanctity.'
St. Maximos the Confessor
:crucifix:
“Acquire the habit of speaking to God as if you were alone with Him, familiarly and with confidence and love, as to the dearest and most loving of friends. Speak to Him often of your business, your plans, your troubles, your fears— of everything that concerns you. Converse with Him confidently and frankly; for God is not wont to speak to a soul that does not speak to Him.”
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:

The Second Glorious Mystery
The Ascension
Forty days after rising from the dead,
Christ ascends into heaven.

Scripture
Acts 1:8-11

Jesus said to them: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.”
:crucifix:
'At length, when the mysteries were all fulfilled and completed, our Lord Jesus began gradually to raise himself up before them, and to ascend by his own virtue and power into heaven. And then the Blessed Virgin, with the rest, fell down and devoutly worshipped him. And our Lady said, "O my beloved, I beseech thee to be mindful of me," and with this she burst forth into tears, not being able to refrain, when she reflected on his departure, yet was she full of inward joy, to see her blessed son thus gloriously ascend into heaven. His disciples also, when they beheld him ascending, said, "Thou knowest, O Lord, that we have renounced all things for thee, wherefore, we beseech thee not to forget us, but be ever mindful of us, for whom we have forsaken all." Then our Lord lifting up his hands, with serene and pleasing aspect, crowned with glory, victoriously ascended into heaven, but first blessing them, he said, "Be steadfast, and fight courageously, for I shall always be with you, even to the end of the world."'
St. Bonaventure
:crucifix:
'Thus, our Lord Jesus, all glorious and resplendently shining, ascended into heaven, triumphantly leading with him the noble tribe of holy Fathers, and fulfilling that which the prophet Micah had said long before his ascension: "And their king shall pass before them, and the Lord at the head of them." So that they all followed him with unspeakable joy, singing canticles of praises and thanksgiving to him, for their deliverance from all sorrow, and their entrance into all joy, and neverending felicity.'
St. Bonaventure
'Before Jesus Christ died for us, Paradise was closed against us; but by his death, Jesus has opened it for all those that love him. Ah, what a pity that, after our Saviour has suffered so much to obtain Paradise, this happy kingdom. . . so many foolish sinners should renounce it and give themselves up to hell for a worthless pleasure, for a mere nothing! Let us beseech Mary to obtain for us the light to see clearly how miserable are the goods of this world, and how great the delights that God offers in the world to come to those that love him.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
'To this day stands Mount Olivet, still to the eyes of the faithful all but displaying Him Who ascended on a cloud, and the heavenly gate of His ascension. For from heaven He descended to Bethlehem, but to heaven He ascended from the Mount of Olives. Olives; at the former place beginning His conflicts among men, but in the latter, crowned after them. Thou hast therefore many witnesses; thou hast this very place of the Resurrection; thou hast also the place of the Ascension towards the east; thou hast also for witnesses the Angels which there bore testimony; and the cloud on which He went up, and the disciples who came down from that place.'
St. Cyril of Jerusalem
:crucifix:
'After the ascension of Jesus Christ, Mary remained on earth to attend to the propagation of the faith. Hence the disciples of our Lord had recourse to her, and she solved their doubts, comforted them in their persecutions, and encouraged them to labour for the Divine glory and the salvation of redeemed souls. She willingly remained on earth, knowing that such was the will of God, for the good of the Church; but she could not but feel the pain of being far from the presence and sight of her beloved Son, who had ascended to heaven. "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also," said the Redeemer. Where anyone believes his treasure and his happiness to be, there he always holds the love and desires of his heart fixed. If Mary, then, loved no other good than Jesus, He being in heaven, all her desires were in heaven. Taulerus says, that 'Heaven was the cell of the heavenly and most Blessed Virgin Mary; for, being there with all her desires and affections, she made it her continual abode. Her school was eternity for she was always detached and free from temporal possessions.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

The Third Glorious Mystery
The Descent of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit descends on Mary and the Apostles

Scripture

Acts 2:1-6, 38-41
When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
:crucifix:
'The holy Apostles remained in seclusion and applied themselves to prayer from the Ascension of Jesus Christ until the day of Pentecost. This was a feast that the Jews celebrated in memory of the giving of the Old Law to Moses on Mount Sinai. On this day the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles and on all those who were gathered together with them in the large upper room. He came to bring them a new law, the law of grace and love, and he poured himself out upon them like a strong, driving wind.

This was to show that just as God in creating man had, as Holy Scripture expresses it, breathed into him the breath of life, so too in communicating a new life to his disciples to live only by grace, he breathed into them his divine Spirit to give them some share in his own divine life.'
St. Jean Baptiste de la Salle
:crucifix:
'Before receiving the Holy Ghost, the apostles were so feeble, so cold, in the love of God, that, at the time of the Passion of our Lord, one betrayed him, another denied him, and all abandoned him; but as soon as they had all received the Holy Ghost, they were so much inflamed with love that they gave up their lives generously for Jesus Christ. St. Augustine says: He who loves, does not labor. He who loves God feels no affliction under crosses, but rather rejoices. . . Let us ask of Mary to obtain for us from the Holy Ghost the gift of divine love; for then all the crosses of this life will seem sweet to us.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:

'But that we may the more easily understand what is the duty of one anointed with chrism, that is, of a Christian soldier, we must consider what the Apostles received at their Confirmation on Whit-Sunday. They were not confirmed by the chrism, but they received from Christ, our chief high priest, the effect of the sacrament without the sacrament. They received three gifts, wisdom, eloquence, and charity, in the highest degree, and likewise the gift of miracles, which were most useful in converting infidel nations to the true faith. These gifts were signified by the "fiery tongues" which appeared on the day of Pentecost, whilst a sound as of a mighty wind was heard at the same time. The light of the fire signified wisdom, its heat charity, the form of the tongues eloquence, and the sound the gift of miracles. The sacrament of our Confirmation does not bestow the gift of tongues nor the gift of miracles, since these were necessary, not for the advantage and perfection of the, Apostles themselves, but for the conversion of the infidels. . . Let him then who has been confirmed enter into the chamber of his heart, and diligently inquire whether he has kept in his heart the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and especially wisdom and fortitude.'
St. Robert Bellarmine
:crucifix:

The Fourth Glorious Mystery
The Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven.
At the end of her life, Mary is taken body and soul into heaven.

Scripture
Revelation 12:1, 13-14

A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. ... When the dragon [the rebellious angel, the devil] saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she could fly to her place in the desert, where, far from the serpent, she was taken care of.
:crucifix:

'Now Mary has left the earth, now she is in heaven. From thence this kind mother looks down upon us, who are still in this valley of tears, compassionates us, and promises us her support if we wish for it.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

'The holy Church teaches us, in the collect of the Mass for the Vigil of the Assumption, that the divine mother has been removed from this earth that she might intercede for us with God, in sure confidence of being graciously heard. Hence Mary is named by St. Justinian, Arbitress: "Sequestra."'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
It was fitting that she, who had kept her virginity intact in childbirth, should keep her own body free from all corruption even after death. It was fitting that she, who had carried the Creator as a child at her breast, should dwell in the divine tabernacles. It was fitting that the spouse, whom the Father had taken to himself, should live in the divine mansions. It was fitting that she, who had seen her Son upon the cross and who had thereby received into her heart the sword of sorrow which she had escaped when giving birth to him, should look upon him as he sits with the Father. It was fitting that God’s Mother should possess what belongs to her Son, and that she should be honored by every creature as the Mother and as the handmaid of God.
St. John Damascene, The Dormition of Mary
:crucifix:
But God was pleased that Mary should in all things resemble Jesus; and as the Son died, it was becoming that the Mother should also die; because, moreover, He wished to give the just an example of the precious death prepared for them, He willed that even the most Blessed Virgin should die, but by a sweet and happy death.
St. Alphonsus Liguori, On The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Almighty and eternal God, who hast assumed the body and soul of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of Thy Son, to celestial glory: grant, we beseech Thee, that always minded toward heavenly things, we may be sharers of the same glory.
Collect of the Assumption, Missale Romanum 1962

The Fifth Glorious Mysteries
The Coronation of The Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven.
Mary is crowned queen of Heaven and earth.
Scripture

"Be faithful unto death and I will give thee the Crown of Life"
Revelation 2:10.
A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
Revelation 12:1-3, 4-5

“Since the great Virgin Mary was raised to the dignity of Mother of   the King of Kings, the Church justly honours her and wishes that she be honoured with the  glorious title of Queen”
Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori,

"Regina Angelorum! Queen of the Angels! What a foretaste of heaven it is to think thus of Mary our mother ceaselessly accompanied by legions of angels!"
-- Pope John XXIII

Saint St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
"For if we are bidden to honor carnal fathers and mothers, how much more the spiritual?...If this virtue of charity has been overlooked, a man will lose any fruit of salvation in any good he may do."
- Pope Saint Gregory VII (1020 - 1085)

“When she became Mother of the Creator, she truly became Queen of every creature.”
 St. John Damascene
:crucifix:
'If the human mind, says St. Bernard, cannot attain to comprehend the immense glory which God has prepared in heaven for those who have loved him on earth, as the apostle declares, who will ever attain to comprehend what he has prepared for her who bore him? What glory did he prepare for his beloved mother, he who on earth loved her more than all men; who, even from the first moment of her creation, loved her more than all men and angels united! Justly, then, does the holy Church say that Mary having loved God more than all the angels, she has been exalted above all the angels, in heaven.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
:crucifix:
"Just as Mary surpassed in grace all others on earth, so also in heaven is her glory unique. If eye has not seen or ear heard or the human heart conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9), who can express what He has prepared for the woman who gave Him birth and who loved Him, as everyone knows, more than anyone else?"
St. Bernard of Clairvaux

"No one has access to the Almighty as His mother has; none has merit such as hers. Her Son will deny her nothing that she asks; and herein lies her power. While she defends the Church, neither height nor depth, neither men nor evil spirits, neither great monarchs, nor craft of man, nor popular violence, can avail to harm us; for human life is short, but Mary reigns above, a Queen forever."
John Henry Cardinal Newman

“Let the entire body of the faithful pour forth persevering prayer to the Mother of God and Mother of men. Let them implore that she who aided the beginnings of the Church by her prayers may now, exalted as she is in heaven above all the saints and angels, intercede with her Son in the fellowship of all the saints. May she do so until all the peoples of the human family, whether they are honored with the name of Christian or whether they still do not know their Savior, are happily gathered together in peace and harmony into the one People of God, for the glory of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity” (Vatican II, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, 69).
"Men do not fear a powerful hostile army as the powers of hell fear the name and protection of Mary."
Saint Bonaventure (1221 - 1274)

Mary Queen of Heaven, pray for us!

Hail Holy Queen:

Hail! Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then,  most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement! O loving! O sweet Virgin Mary!

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray:

O God, whose only begotten Son,
by His life, His death and His resurrection,
 has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life;
 grant, we beseech Thee,
that, meditating upon these mysteries
of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain
 and obtain what they promise,
through the same Christ our Lord.
 Amen.

Queen of the Holy Rosary,
pray for us!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
 Amen!

The Sign of the Cross.

In the name of the Father of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
 Amen

The Apostles' Creed.

I believe in God
 the Father Almighty,
 Creator of heaven and earth;
 and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
He was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
 On the third day He arose again from the dead;
 He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
 the communion of saints,
 the forgiveness of sins,
 the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

The Our Father:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
 hallowed be Thy name:
Thy kingdom come:
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread:
and forgive us our trespasses

The Holy Rosary according to the Method of St. Louis de Montfort
Written by St. Louis Marie de Montfort

At the end of each decade after the Glory be, he added an invocation which I will give in bold italics.

 The First Joyful Mystery:
Announcement of the Birth of Jesus.

We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this first decade in honor of Thine Incarnation in Mary's womb, and we ask of Thee, through this Mystery and through her intercession, a profound humility.

The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery
The Crucifixion.
Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies.

We offer You,  Lord Jesus, this fifth decade in honor of Your Crucifixion on Mount Calvary and we ask of You, through this Mystery and through the intercession of Your Blessed Mother,  the conversion of sinners, a great horror of sins, a love of the Cross and the grace of a holy death for us and for those in their last agony and for the relief of the souls in Purgatory.
Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
 hallowed be Thy name:
Thy kingdom come:
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread:
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation:
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

O God, whose only begotten Son,
by His life, His death and His resurrection,
 has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life;
 grant, we beseech Thee,
that, meditating upon these mysteries
of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain
 and obtain what they promise,
through the same Christ our Lord.
 Amen.

Concluding Prayer

We beseech You, dear Lord Jesus, by these Mysteries of Your Life, Passion and Death, by Your glory and by the merits of Your Blessed Mother, to convert sinners and help the dying; to deliver the holy souls from purgatory, and to give us all Your grace so that we may live well and die well. And please give us the light of Your glory later on so that we may see You face to face and love You for all eternity.
Amen!

Queen of the Holy Rosary,
pray for us!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
 Amen!

The Sign of the Cross.

In the name of the Father of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
 Amen

The Apostles' Creed.

I believe in God
 the Father Almighty,
 Creator of heaven and earth;
 and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
He was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
 On the third day He arose again from the dead;
 He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
 the communion of saints,
 the forgiveness of sins,
 the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

The Our Father:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
 hallowed be Thy name:
Thy kingdom come:
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread:
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation:
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

The Hail Mary:

 Hail Mary, full of grace,
 the Lord is with thee:
 blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

The Hail Mary:

 Hail Mary, full of grace,
 the Lord is with thee:
 blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

The Hail Mary:

 Hail Mary, full of grace,
 the Lord is with thee:
 blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Glory Be to the Father:

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.
 Amen.

The Fatima Prayer:

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell,
and lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those in most need of Your Mercy.

The First Joyful Mystery: The Annunciation

The archangel Gabriel announces the Incarnation to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

'This day (the Annunciation) is the beginning of our salvation.

The Second Joyful Mystery
The Visitation
 Mary visits Elizabeth

'After the holy Virgin had heard from the archangel St. Gabriel, that her cousin Elizabeth had been six months pregnant, she was interiorly enlightened by the Holy Spirit to know that the Word which had taken human flesh and had already become her Son, wished to commence manifesting to the world the riches of his mercy, by the first graces that he desired to impart to all that family. Therefore, without interposing any delay, as St. Luke relates: "Rising up, Mary went into the mountainous country in haste."'

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

Give us this day our daily bread:

Third Joyful Mystery.

The Birth of Our Lord

“It was the Lord who directed Augustus to give this edict, that he might minister to the coming of the Only-begotten; for it was this edict that brought Christ's mother into her country as the prophets had foretold, namely, to Bethlehem of Judea, according to the word, to a city of David, which is called Bethlehem.”
St. John Chrysostom

St. Gregory the Great
Now here was no midwife, no tender anxiety of women; she wrapped the Child up in swaddling clothes, herself both mother and midwife.
Saint Jerome
'My dearest Saviour, Thou art the King of Heaven, the King of kings, the Son of God; and how is it, then, that I see Thee in this cave, forsaken by all? I see no one assisting Thee but Joseph and Thy holy Mother.
I desire to unite myself also to them in keeping Thee company.'
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

Amen.

The Fourth Joyful Mystery:
The Presentation

Amen.

The Fifth Joyful Mystery
The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple.

The Second Sorrowful Mystery: The Scourging

Christ is scourged at the pillar.

'Ah, my Lord, smitten with the scourge, I return Thee thanks for so great love, and I grieve that I am myself, by reason of my sins, one of those who scourge Thee. O my Jesus! I detest all those wicked pleasures which have cost Thee so much pain.'

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

The Passion and the Death of Jesus Christ

The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery

The Carrying of the Cross

'Imagine to thyself, O my soul, that thou meetest Jesus as he passes along in this sorrowful journey. As a lamb borne along to the slaughter-house, so is the loving Redeemer conducted unto death: As a lamb He is led to the slaughter. So drained of blood is he and wearied out with his torments, that for very weakness he can scarcely stand. Behold him, all torn with wounds, with that bundle of thorns upon his head, with that heavy cross upon his shoulders, and with one of those soldiers dragging him along by a rope. Look at him as he goes along, with body bent double, with knees all of a tremble, dripping with blood; and so painful is it to him to walk, that at every step he seems ready to die.

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

Our Father who art in Heaven. . .

Thanksgiving for the Rosary

There is one harp that any hand can play,
And from its strings what harmonies arise!
There is one song that any mouth can say -
A song that lingers when all singing dies,
When on their beds our Mother's children pray,
Immortal music charms the grateful skies.

Sweet, blessed beads! I would not part
With one of you for richest gem
That gleams in kingly diadem:
Ye know the history of my heart.

Peace be with you.

I don't pray the Holy Rosary in its traditional form. I've modified it that it goes round and round in circles leading to Eternity, Eternal Perpetual Prayers. I'm certain they do that a lot in Heaven, since the Blessed Virgin Mary is always so incessant on Rosary prayers so I do lots of it here on Earth to get ready for Heaven.

Prayers done today:

The Hail Mary's. (x600)
Glory Be's. (x60)
O my Jesus'. (x60)
Our Father's. (x60)

(The Fourth Increment.)

I find Prayer and Fasting and reading Holy Words, Extremely Conducive to a Remarkable Spiritual Life. I'm winding down the prayer numbers as I am finishing off Day 25 of the 30 days fast. Fast will finish on the 30th Day. Then resting for 13 days. Then commencement of 35 days fast will begin. In the last 4 months, through the Divine Light and Divine Grace of Marie and JESUS, 10 days fast was completed, 15 days fast was completed, 20 days fast was completed, and 25 days fast was completed. Only sweet liquids were consumed. This is for reference purposes in case anybody has any doubts as to the Power of God in this dark hour before the inauguration of the next Age, the Golden Age. I call this Preparing for the Second Coming. Glory be to God, JESUS Christ, Eternal Source of Divine Light and Divine Grace forever and ever.

God bless you.

'One day, when St. Mechtilde was praying and was trying to think of some way in which she could express her love of the Blessed Virgin better than before, she fell into ecstasy. Our Lady appeared to her with the Angelic Salutation written in letters of gold upon her breast and said to her, "My daughter, I want you to know that no one can please me more than by saying the greeting which the most adorable Trinity presented to me and by which I was raised to the dignity of the Mother of God.'

Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
the Lord is with You.
O Blessed Mother Marie,
I offer through You,
to Holy Almighty God,
my prayers for Your Gracious,
Holy and Merciful Intentions
and also for You to keep watch
over all of Shin's Friends and Family.
Thank you, O, Holy Mother of God,
Most Blessed are You among women.
Amen.
