He issued an act proclaiming all religions equal before the law, unseating Christianity, and favoring the Jews, heretics and pagans. He pretended to be even handed but selectively applied the laws to persecute Christians and promote pagans. He tried to rebuild the Jewish temple, but supernatural fires destroyed the work and the workers. Was St. Dometius stabbed to death or stoned to death?
