Title: St. Rosa of Lima
Post by: Brigid on March 29, 2010, 04:21:22 PM
O Jesus my Savior
How wondrous your mien
Midst flowers and roses
And Olive trees green.

Ay Jesus de mi alma
Que bien pareces
Entre Flores y Rosas
Y Olivas Verdes

As a young girl, in emulation of the noted tertiary Catherine of Siena, Rose began to fast three times
a week and performed severe penances in secret.

Despite the censure of her parents, Rose spent many hours contemplating the Blessed Sacrament,
which she received daily. This was an extremely rare practice in that period.

When she was a young lady, Rose rejected all suitors against the objections of her friends and her family.
Obviously her father and mother mighty have assumed that their daughter would eventually marry.

Rose made and sold lace and embroidery to care for the poor.
