Interestingly enough.  The pastor of one (of the two) parishes where I attend mass brought his new dog to mass.  It was a miniature collie; extremely docile and silent.  Was carried in by two youth and sat in the pew the entire mass motionless and silent.  After mass, the pastor brought the dog up to the podium & introduced her.  He explained his father has alzheimer's and therapy dogs help (he is taking care of his father at home).  He said that a therapy dog needs to be socialized in all settings and so we would see her here (I presume in the pew hardly noticeable).  I wonder if that will help his dad go to mass there?  Wouldn't that be nice?  Anyway, in light of this conversation, I thought it interesting.   

Dogs, cats, gerbils, any animal does NOT belong at mass except perhaps a service dog-- in a spot set aside for wheel chairs and the like (we have those spaces set up in our church.

Agree.  In secular world, Christmas music stops the day after Christmas.  We continue to play ours, at least until "little Christmas"--feast of the wise men.  And we leave the decorations up and often lit outside until then too!

Service dog in training?  We had one at our church for a while.  Oh, you are talking about one of those pocket dogs?  We had a big one with the service dog "jacket" on.
