Difficulty Engaging in Discursive Thought about the Mysteries of Christ's Life

Taken from the footnotes of
The Collected Works of St. John of the Cross
translated by Kieran Kavanaugh, O.C.D. and Otilio Rodriguez, O.C.D..
"...John's teaching is harmonious with St. Teresa of Avila's. Strongly asserting that one must never turn from the humanity of Christ, she nonetheless admits that it is common for contemplative souls to be unable to engage in discursive thought about the mysteries of Christ's life. Communing with the Person, however, "dwelling on his mysteries with a simple gaze," is another matter and "will not impede the most sublime prayer" (Interior Castle VI. 7. 6-7,11-12; Way of Perfection 34. 11).

This is making me think about how angels contemplate God and communicate. I think I will
post some extracts
on this in another thread.
Thank you Therese!

And thank you Theresa for inspiring Shin to post about the angels.
