A disciple of the holy Abbot Palaemon once prepared for his master, at the end of Lent, a dish of vegetables cooked in oil; the holy man turned to him with tearful eyes, and said: "How is this? My Lord Jesus Christ was crucified, and must I eat oil with my food?"
