It’s been a while…but we’ve finished Genesis
Like I said when I started this book study… I’m not in a hurry reading the bible this time
And now, it’s Exodus
It feels strange to read how short the story of Moses' childhood is. I think I got influenced by the movie “The 10 Commandments”, it being such a long movie and other movies which depicted the story of Moses.
The only sign I remember Moses doing in front of pharaoh is Moses turning his shepherd stick into a snake. I didn't remember the part where God also made his hand touched by leprosy.
Exodus 4:24-26. And, oh! Moses was not circumcised! Remember, that according to the tradition of Abraham, his descendants are to be circumcised. Then it would mean that Moses was left to wade in the river Nile in a reed basket before his 8th day. Isn’t it that on the 8th day the child will be dedicated to God and circumcised? Well, I guess I’m getting ahead of myself since this will be mentioned in Leviticus, I think. I mean the 8th day law for dedication.
(CCB) Ex. 4:25. But Zipporah took a flint stone and cut her son's foreskin and, with it, she touched the feet of Moses saying "You are now my husband by blood!"
(JB) Ex. 4:25. At once Zipporah, taking up a flint, cut off her son's foreskin and with it she touched the genitals of Moses. "Truly, you are a bridegroom of blood to me!" she said.
(NIV) Ex. 4:25 But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin and touched Moses' feet with it. "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me," she said.
Isn't it fascinating how one chapter could be said/written differently? The advantage of being Catholic is that I don't have to interpret this by myself. The Church interprets it for us. CCB and JB which are Catholic bibles both have similar commentaries.
In addition, JB used the word "genitals", but in its commentaries, it says "Lit. 'the feet'"
Now, in this instance, there seems to be a relationship to the argument of Paul that not all who wants to be Christians “have to be circumcised" like the Jews.
