I exercise late at night, right before time to wind down and start getting ready for bed.
That doesn't work for some folks but it knocks me right out.

If I am anxious, I read extra after compline.

I am one if those for whom a cup of coffee in the middle of the night actually helps me settle down.
Some people react in the opposite way to things which stimulate or calm the nervous system. I am definitely one of those.

If all else fails and I have early morning commitments aside from my usual ones at home ( like if we are at the hospital and there are early morning appointments). I take melatonin.
