St. Dominic was a native of Calaroga in Old Castile, Spain.   
He was of the illustrious house of the Guzmans. At the age of fourteen,   
he was sent to the schools of Valencia, which were soon after transferred to Salamanica.

Dominic transferred for further studies in the schools of Palencia.   
In Palencia he devoted six years to the arts and four years to theology.

At the age of 24, Dominic was ordained as a priest and joined the canonry of the Cathedral of Osma.
