'All sins are highly displeasing to God, but above all sensuality and avarice, which are very difficult to cure.'

Hello,
Sadly this has been the bane of my spirituality, lately!
My daughter is fighting for her very soul as she tries to survive High School.
Most of the
kids are dressed and behave so provocatively. They talk about 'Hooking-up', meaningless,
loveless. fornication; like it's a walk in the park. My daughter was so innocent when she
started school
and in just one years time has seen lesbian interaction along with the
boy/girl intimate contacts (trying to be classy, here). She wound up writting explicit scenes
herself. Since she doesn't hang around that crowd any more, she writes sweet, they get married
stories. But she has no one to eat with and cries because she is very lonely.
It'll improve
this spring. I told her what Our Lady at Fatima said, "more souls are lost to hell for sins of
the flesh than any other reason." She tends to listen to her "Mother"!
This time we are in is overwhelmingly challenging. I have to hold the remote ready because
in the middle of a cooking show, they flash to a bunch of mostly naked Victoria Secret Models!
Thank you for the Quote, it is of much value.

It's very difficult! I've given up most TV, I know there are many traditional Catholics who will simply remove it from the house, and I can understand why.
I find myself watching old shows or the news which I haven't entirely given up on, but I'm near to it. Sadly, it's still a 'social occasion' for the family to sit in front of it. In other words, since we can't entertain each other we sit together in front of the tube!
I know I'd have an easier time of it if my parents were practicing, because then we'd have spiritual things to do together -- family rosary, this sort of thing.
I've just moved, and if I find a parish that has some sort of group activity I can take people to, I will. There aren't any traditional parishes nearer than about an hour and a few's drive, so nothing's going to be quite what I'd like, but when you have lemons, you make lemonade!

Hello,
I think TV is the way most "junk" enters our homes. We only watch Deadliest Catch, Cake Shows
creative shows, or situations we don't know about ie; the Bering Sea.
Mostly, we read ALOT and my husband and daughter enjoy games.
Like you we're making "lemonade"!

I'll be getting rid of cable by September. I'm under contract till then. That should solve half the problem. I've just started watching Clark Howard's money show on CNN to learn more about money and wise investing. Thats pretty clean.
I love Mother Angelica's classics The discovery channel also should be good for kids and the travel shows which I wish they would watch more.

I like to see the travel shows too, not that I could afford to actually travel, but to see other cultures.
When I had full cable I loved to watch Mother Angelica's Classics there (among a few other things on EWTN). Now I need to watch those on the internet, but have found that the Masterpiece Theater Classics (on PBS Sundays, here) have a number of period piece shows that are clean and that I really like and are on the limited cable that comes with my internet.

Welcome Again, Bailey,
I think my daughter would be fine if she had even one friend with her beliefs
or the parents with ours. Her best Catholic friend is her 22 yr old tutor!
I really appreciate you sharing about you, and your son, and your experiences.

If you long earnestly, anxiously, and persistently after what you do not possess, it is all very well to say that you do not wish to get it unfairly, but you are all the time guilty of avarice. He who longs eagerly and anxiously to drink, though it may be water only, thereby indicates that he is feverish.
St. Francis de Sales
'You must flee from sensual things. Indeed, every time a man comes near to a struggle with sensuality, he is like a man standing at the edge of a very deep lake and the enemy easily throws him in whenever he likes. But if he lives far away from sensual things, he is like a man standing at a distance from the lake, so that even if the enemy draws him in order to throw him to the bottom, God sends him help at the very moment he is drawing him away and doing him violence.'
St. Poemen
I've read that some of the cures for avarice are almsgiving and poverty.
