'Perfection of life consists in drawing close to God. Heaven is the possession of God. In heaven God is contemplated, adored, loved. But to attain heaven it's necessary to be detached from what is earthly. What is the life of a Carmelite if not one of contemplating, adoring and loving God incessantly? And she, by being desirous for that heaven, distances herself from the world and tries to detach herself as much as possible from everything earthly.'

Thinking of death would seem to most to be a morbid preoccupation but I can't help thinking that one day, whether I like it or not, I'm gonna be removed from every single attachment on this earth.
They're all going to be taken from me.. As the saying goes, we come into the world with nothing and we leave it with nothing.
Best to start the detachment business now and rather than becoming morbid the very opposite is the case. The more detached we become, the more peace we receive, even in this life.

Another thing I used to think was that detachment was only for monks and hermits. I believe now that that's not the case at all. We can practice detachment right in the middle of the world and it's affairs.

Ah... what peace if we could practice it perfectly.  flower

"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
