My children were wondering why St. Ireaneus would leave his clothes behind?  Huh?  I said that maybe the soldiers tried to grab him and he probably wiggled out of his clothes and escaped. I don't know. Cheesy

That's what I always thought, Patricia.

There's definitely some deeper spiritual meaning to this here. Hmm.

That's a good one Shin.
Maybe we could think up some meanings of our own before checking out commentaries. It might bring forth some worthwhile considerations,  Cheesy

Seems to me, Shin, that the deeper spiritual meaning has to do with the veil of the temple (the linen cloth) and vulnerability (humility and spiritual poverty) with Christ releasing us from the barrier between God and the material.

Just my personal commentary. shrug

That I would never have thought of. I like that Brigid.

I think you have the answer to the saints head question. You were right about his body being in England.

I had just read about him in a book about Ireland. Another God-incidence.

I remember my father taking us to see this relic when I was a boy.  I thought it a little scary at the time but it is miraculous after all these years.

I didn't read about that - is it incorrupt?

Not the prettiest site in the world but many cures have been granted from praying before this relic.
I once read a book about this.

For a man to run away from the Lord ( and without clothes ) when Our Lord needed him most would be such a shame.  It would have to be the height of cowardice.  It shows the fear that gripped His disciples at that moment.  And yet Our Lord faced His sad fate fearlessly and alone. But this disciple after the Resurrection would have undergone a transformation-- from fear to fearlessness.  Undecided
