Excellent.  The second one is not 'personal' but very close..... You got pallium right, that is great!  I'd never heard of that word.

I came across the word "pallium" for the first time this year when I was reading about Saint Agnes of Rome  whose feast day we commemorate on 21 January.Here is  an excerpt from what I posted at CAF on that day:

“It is my understanding that each year, on this day, the Feast of Saint Agnes, two, young, white, lambs ( symbols of purity, innocence) are solemnly blessed at the altar of her church and then offered to the Pope. The wool from these lambs is used to make Pallia which are then distributed to the archbishops of the Church.

Note: Pallium is a white woolen band with pendants in front and back worn over the chasuble by a pope or archbishop as a symbol of full episcopal authority.”

What are the Novissima?   ( Following is the answer I found  ) A first guess from the Latin novum might be that it is something new. In fact, it is the opposite. The superlative of novum, novissimus, means the latest, the last thing. And what are the novissima - the last things - that every man must face, regardless of position, wealth, or power? They are Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell. The Church always taught that man should be prepared for the Novissima, the last things. It is what we pray in the Hail Mary: “Pray for us now and at the hour of our death.”

The Church Suffering (Christians in Purgatory)
The Church Triumphant (Christians in Heaven)

The 3 Levels of Reverence :
Dulia:           the reverence we give to Saints
Hyperdulia:   the reverence we give to Mary as the greatest of Saints and Mother of God
Latria:           the reverence and worship we give to God alone

My Susy was with me when I typed my last reply.  She was 'shocked' that the souls in purgatory are suffering.  I guess I'd led her to believe it was more like school -- a time for learning-- than suffering.  So I told her purgatory is more like a good long scrubbing with a wire brush to cleanse us of our impurities.  Is that more correct?  We then talked about how to offer up our suffering to save ours and ourselves and to pray always for the 'poor souls in purgatory' and that they would then help us out of purgatory once they have gotten to heaven.  How am I doing?

So you think a scrubbing with a wire brush is too soft?  I don't want to scare her so badly that she gives up!  To a young person, 'a long time in a hell-like place' and 'an eternity in hell' don't sound too different!  "What's the difference, if either of these terrible experiences are unavoidably ahead of me?" I'm fearful she may think.

I'm not a parent..

I generally would be in favor of telling it to them straight as soon as possible. The souls there are worth crying over and praying for and being devoted to from an early age.

I think children can handle these things better than we think. After all, they have to learn about Hell from the beginning too.

Have you read much about purgatory yet yourself? It might help to place it in a good context. I'll try to post more quotes on it for a bit.
