St. Thomas was born in the Kingdom of Castile, Spain in 1488.   
He was called "of Villanova" after the town where he was educated.     
From his pious parents he learned about charity for the poor.

When he was sixteen, Thomas entered the University of Alcala de Henares to study Arts and Theology.   
He became a professor there. He taught arts, logic, and philosophy.

In 1516 Thomas decided to join the Augustinian friars in Salamanca and in 1518 he was ordained a priest.
