WASHINGTON, D.C., January 21, 2011 (LifeSiteNews Excerpt) - During Chinese President Hu Jintao’s state visit to the United States this week, one lawmaker has expressed surprise after reporting that the Communist head of state “insisted” that the coercive policies behind the infamous one child policy did not exist - something that both private and government investigators have proven false.
While human rights advocates on Capitol Hill greeted Hu with public denouncements of his country’s abysmal human rights abuses, the Chinese president met with a lavish reception from the Obama administration. When House members met with Hu in closed-door meetings on Thursday, the head of the House Foreign Affairs Committee was surprised at the leader’s reaction when the subject of his country’s coercive one-child policy came up.
“Out of all the issues I raised, the only one which received a response from Mr.Hu was my statement urging the end of China’s forced abortion policy,” said Foreign Affairs chairwoman Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), according to the Associated Press.
“I was astonished when he insisted that such a policy does not exist.”
Population Research Institute founder Steven Mosher said that he was “not surprised” by Hu’s words, which he called a “bald-faced lie.”
Mosher, the first social scientist allowed into the country in 1979, has since then been fighting for the rights of Chinese women whom he witnessed undergoing forced abortions.
“I was in china a few months ago and met with women who were actually fleeing forced abortion" "I know for a fact if they had been caught by the authorities, they would have immediately been taken in and given a lethal injection into the uterus, which would have resulted in ... their delivering a dead baby within 48 to 72 hours.”
“This is not just an accidental consequence of a few out-of-control officials. this is the way the program is designed by the state family planning commission to actually work,” said Mosher. “Hu Jintao surely knows this because he has endorsed the one-child policy in speeches, and the government of China at all levels knows it, because this is one of their major, ongoing, political campaigns.”
