‘Death panels’: Canadian court rules baby’s life support removed

(Lifesite News Excerpts) One-year-old Joseph Maraachli of Windsor, Ontario will have his life support removed Monday at 10 am. after the Ontario Superior Court today rejected an appeal by the parents to bring him home where he can die under their care.
A leading anti-euthanasia advocate says the decision facilitates a system where doctors are authorized to force life and death decisions on patients, warning that this is, in fact, far worse than the “death panels” recently debated in the U.S. as part of the federal health care law.
“Monday at 10 am they will kill my baby,” Moe Maraachli, Joseph’s father, told LifeSiteNews shortly after the ruling. “There’s no more humanity. There’s no more chance. I’ve tried everything for him. No more appeals, nothing.”
“I asked them: why not send him to Windsor and let him die at home?” he continued. “They said they will give him injection, but I don’t want to.”
“I ask God, and maybe he breathe,” he added.
Joseph was taken to Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario in October where he was diagnosed with severe neurological issues. Doctors gave him no chance of recovery. Moe and his wife Sana have asked doctors to perform a tracheotomy so that they could take Joseph home, but the doctors refused, saying the procedure was too risky.
. . . in January, the Consent and Capacity Board of Ontario sided with the hospital, and a date for removing Joseph’s respirator was set. The family was able to hold it off by filing an appeal with the Superior Court.
Today, Superior Court Justice Helen Rady also sided with the hospital, saying that Joseph is in a permanent vegetative state with no brain stem reflex.
Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, who has been communicating with the parents, emphasized that they aren’t pushing for extraordinary treatment, just asking to care for their dying child at home.
“I don’t get it. There’s nothing here that I get. It makes no sense,” he said. “What is in this for the hospital and the doctor? Why would they bother doing this?”

We see here more and more parents are losing their authority over their children, so that the government has control over all aspects of children's lives.. from birth, to education, and their deaths..
What this results in ultimately over all, that Christians who wish 'opt out' from the enforced immorality of the government will not be able to, and their children will be taken away from them if they attempt to do so, as for example, in Germany, when homeschooling is attempted.

This is so sad, but predictable.
Parental authority has been eroded over many years and purposely so, ever so slowly.
State control of every aspect of the family is in full swing in Europe too.
Lord protect us all.

LONDON, Ontario, February 17, 2011 (LifeSiteNews Excerpts)
One-year-old Joseph Maraachli of Windsor, Ontario, who was to have his life support removed Monday at 10 am. against his parents’ wishes, will now not die on the day that Ontario residents celebrate as Family Day. A hustle by pro-life and anti-euthanasia groups resulted in a change in legal counsel, which has led to at least a temporary stay of removal of the child’s ventilator.
Alex Schadenberg, head of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, informed LifeSiteNews Sunday evening that negotiations are underway to transfer Joseph to a hospital in Michigan.
Tomorrow’s scheduled vigil in support of Baby Joseph and the Maraachli family is still happening at 9 am. outside Victoria Hospital at Wellington and Commissioners in London, Ontario.
Last week the Ontario Superior Court rejected an appeal by Josephs’ parents to bring him home where he can die under their care.
“Monday at 10 am. they will kill my baby,” Moe Maraachli, Joseph’s father, had told LifeSiteNews shortly after the ruling. “There’s no more humanity. There’s no more chance. I’ve tried everything for him. No more appeals, nothing.”
Superior Court Justice Helen Rady also sided with the hospital, saying that Joseph is in a permanent vegetative state with no brain stem reflex. However, Joseph’s family members have said that the boy still responds to stimuli.

Little Joseph needs to be with his parents at this moment and not be treated like a court case. Lord have mercy on the little boy and his parents!

LifeSiteNews Excerpts - The Detroit hospital where the family of dying one-year-old Joseph Maraachli had hoped to have him transferred has now refused to take him. Although the announcement comes as a blow for the family, they say they are far from out of options.
“We’re optimistic that there’s some good opportunities, but we hadn’t pursued them because they had told us yes at Detroit,” said Sam Sansalone, a spokesperson for the family.
Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit had agreed to take Joseph on Sunday, but then reversed that decision Tuesday evening.
“We had the opportunity to review Joseph’s record last night and today,” the hospital wrote. “The review by both Neurology and ICU services has determined that we cannot offer Joseph anything that he has not been provided already during his current admission by his current clinical care team.”
The clock is ticking for the family as Victoria Hospital in London, where Joseph has been treated since October, has asked Ontario’s Office of the Public Guardian to assume decision-making power after the family refused to have Joseph’s life support removed on Monday. The public guardian could order it removed at any point.
Joseph’s father, Moe Maraachli, says hospital security is denying them private visitations with Joseph, and has forbidden them from taking videos.

Why doesn't a Catholic hospital offer to accept little Joseph?

St. LOUIS, Missouri, March 14, 2011 (LifeSiteNews Excerpts) – After weeks of legal battles and searching for a hospital willing to take over his care, Baby Joseph Maraachli was airlifted Sunday night to a children’s hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Joseph and his father, Moe Maraachli, were joined on the specially-equipped air ambulance by Fr. Frank Pavone, national director of the U.S.-based Priests for Life. The organization paid for the flight, and will foot Joseph’s U.S. medical bills and the cost of his family’s accommodations.
Doctors at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center are now evaluating his condition and developing a treatment plan. The hospital is expected to make an announcement by Tuesday morning about their treatment plan for Joseph.
“If there is a chance this boy can live, we have to explore every option,” said Fr. Pavone in a Fox News report. “Now that we have won the battle against the medical bureaucracy in Canada, the real work of saving Baby Joseph can begin.”
Joseph suffers from a severe neurological disorder, but his specific condition remains undiagnosed. The Maraachli’s daughter Zina died from similar complications eight years ago. In that case the family took her home after doctors performed a tracheostomy. They now want the same for Joseph.

Praise God for those who are not afraid to follow His ways and do what is right, no matter how big the fight. Lord, if it be Thy Will, heal Joseph and let him live to do Your work. Please, God, protect us.
