New Additions to Saints' Books - Martyrology & St. Gertrude the Great

Currently we now have added:

The Roman Martyrology of 1914

The Life and Revelations of St. Gertrude the Great

The first book is of the kind that one can read every day, and add a response at the end as a memory and a prayer. So it has great value because its contents and special use for prayer.

The second contains many secrets that I think, are such priceless treasure that one who has read them has been given a special privilege by God, and should be careful to prepare one's soul to approach cleanly with gratitude and reverence.

There are many more books waiting in the wings and being prepared.

To quote the Roman Martyrology:

'Let all, then, procure and read daily the appropriate portions of this Martyrology. Its daily and pious perusal will console us in affliction, will animate us in despondency, will make our souls glow with the love of God in coldness, and will lift up our minds and hearts from this dull and everchanging earth to the bright and everlasting mansions prepared for us in Heaven!'

Excerpt from 'St. Gertrude the great'

But as she advanced, she perceived our Lord
regarding her with an eye of compassion, or rather of love,
and sending her His innocence, that she might be adorned
therewith as with a white garment. He gave her His humility,
which made Him converse with creatures so utterly unworthy
of such a favour ; and this served her for a purple tunic.
He filled her with that hope which would make
her sigh, ardently for Him whom she loved, to add the
beauty of green to her garments. He presented her with
His love of souls for a vestment of gold. He inspired her
with the joy which He takes in the hearts of the faithful
for a crown of precious stones. And, lastly, He gave her
for sandals that confidence with which He deigned to rest
on the inconstancy of human frailty, and which made Him
find His delights with the children of men.

When one reads the first few paragraphs of a book it nearly always reveals whether it be divinely inspired or not. This one has already stirred me to make new resolutions and I've only read the introduction.
Take this extract for example from the words of St. Augustine. Everyone could make these words their own and get both hands firmly on the plough again.  Words like these give much needed encouragement to keep fighting the good fight

In reading this roll of consecrated holiness, our instinctive conclusion is, precisely that which the great soul of St. Augustine reached at the very crisis of his life, the moment of his conversion.

"If other men like me have attained to such sanctity, why not I ? Shall the poor, the afflicted, the despised of the World, bear away the palm of victory, the crown of immortality, while I lie buried in my sloth and dead in my sins, and thus lose the brilliant and glorious mansion already prepared for me in heaven? Shall all the gifts, which God has lavished upon me, be ingloriously spent and foolishly wasted, in the petty contest for this world's evanescent honors and riches, while the poor and contemned lay up treasures in heaven, and secure the prize of immortal glory? Shall others be the friends of God, whom He delights to honor, while I alone remain His enemy, and an alien from His blessed Kingdom ?"

How inspiring Martin! It makes a person want to truly stand up and serve to the fullest as a soldier of Christ!

PS.  I should have mentioned that the above extract was taken from "The Roman Martyrology."
Will download "The Life and Revelations of St. Gertrude the Great" a book I can't wait to read.

There are many prayers and devotions in there one can do that Our Lord has given and spoken about as especially favored.

St. Mechtilde and St. Gertrude are together in the book.

My, what forgotten treasures we have and to think what they've been replaced with. 
Reviving these books is not an insignificant work but rather could be the means of keeping traditional faith alive for future generations.
You certainly have your hands on the right plough Shin. May your hard work be blessed abundantly I pray.

I do not particularly understand how they could be forgotten in the first place, or why in fact there is not a program stocking every parish full of them, and a large charitable organization run from the highest place, every possible home.

This I think would be the answer to most everything.
