An Appeal on Behalf of the Holy Souls
«
on:
November 07, 2011, 08:22:01 PM »
I was doing my usual walk this evening and during the rosary I decided to offer each Ave for a particular departed soul (Mother, Father, Grandparents etc etc). By ****, I had no sooner thought on one soul til another would come to mind. I ended up doing 10 decades to accommodate them all. It was as if the word had got out in purgatory that someone was praying for the dead and I was thinking that if a particular soul came to mind I couldn't in charity refuse him/her a prayer.
It also struck me that maybe there aren't a whole lot of Catholics remembering the dead and that we should try and make up for this by doing a little extra.
For inspiration or to get a kick start, I would recommend for the month of November reading the book by Fr. Paul O'Sullivan (found on saintsbooks) titled "Read Me or Rue it." It is a short book which could be read in an hour
Be warned though; you'll be a busy pray-er after you read it.
Not only will the Holy Souls benefit but we too will benefit by their help in this life and especially when we die.

Good tip while saying the Rosary, Martin. I'll adopt that practice too. The holy souls need our prayers even more than sinners do ( I read that in a saints quote somewhere )

One person comes to mind after another, so you have to keep on praying! Deo gratias!
May God rest the holy souls!

On All Souls Day I was thinking of members of my family who have since departed; I could not believe it, they were so many. Most just in the last few years. I was praying " Eternal rest...." for each of them. You are right of course, martin, we should pray more for the souls in Purgatory. I will read the book you have recommended; the title is catching;seems like a "must read"

I have just completed the book Martin.
Thank you!
Thank you very much for this post. He is right you know, when he concluded: " For who can read it and refuse to help them?"

God Our Father,
source of all our consolation and mercy.
You, who bring us to new life, hear our prayer.
By the intercession of Mary our mother,
may our relatives, friends, benefactors
and all dead known to You alone,
who have gone back to You from this world,
come to share eternal happiness with all Your saints.
Wipe away all our tears and
strengthen us to keep our journey and mission
until we meet with them again, to sing Your praises forever and ever.
Eternal rest grant unto them Oh Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Amen!

Eternal Father,
I offer you the most precious Blood of your Divine Son Jesus,
in union with the Masses said throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
those in my own home and within my family.
Amen!
