Who's you guys? And no.  Angry

That's just the way things have been, the language has changed and can be taken more ambiguously nowadays, if you don't interpret in the light of past teachings, which is often the case. Cheesy

'And if our Gospel be also hid, it is hid to them that are lost. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of unbelievers, that the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine unto them.'

2 Corinthians 4:3,4

'He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be condemned.'

Mk. 16:16

See, nothing unclear there, no? Quite plain and not socially acceptable. Cheesy

Where do I hear Pope Benedict say that Vat II is not in conformity with Church teachings?

Vatican ll was not a dogmatic Council. So one does not have to live by it.  There was a similar Council in 553. Pope Gregory the Great, who died in 604 AD, counseled bishops to ignore the Second Council of Constantinople and its ambiguous teaching. He advised "Just pretend it never took place." And the Second Council of Constantinople wasn't even as ambiguous as Vatican ll is.  Shocked

Well, then my sp. dir.'s advice is on target.  "Don't get caught up in any of these things.  They swirl around the surface.  Look only at the heart of the Church.  Keep yourself focused there."

This is what you said Baily and it's something I've been trying do. The things on the surface can be subject to change, some of which can be good or bad depending on the general moral climate of any given era. Sometimes those things which are not subject to change get confused with those that are. In such times as we're in I think it's safest to stay focused on those unchangeable truths of the faith.

The boundaries of the narrow road marked out by Christ have become blurred in our day and one can find it hard to know if one is within them or without. If we believe as we always believed we can more easily recognize the narrow road and do our best to stay within its boundaries. For me this means learning from those who have already made the journey home, i.e. the saints, one of whom is among my favorites and to whom the mysteries of the loving Heart of Jesus were revealed; I mean of course St. Margaret Mary. Christ in the Holy Eucharist is the heart of the Church and the heart of Christ is the Sacred Heart of Jesus in whom we are told to place all our trust.

Ah, I see.

"Christ in the Holy Eucharist is the heart of the Church"
Yes, he told me that too-- to focus only there.  That, "that is all that matters and without it there is nothing."

There are many whirlwinds spinning around our Church right now.  Arguments between so-called "liberals,"  "conservatives,"  "orthodox," "cafeteria,"  "traditionalist,"  "Vatican II,"  "JPII Catholics,"  and the names go on and on.    So when my sp. dir. said "heart of the Church" and "Eucharist" that summed up.  So, they are his words, not mine.  As I've said many times, I think my confessor is a holy man, though he would look down as if chiding me if I said so to him.  Anyway, glad his words moved you as they give me focus.

Hey BTW, I'll be starting online classes in mid-April via the VLCFF at Univ. of Dayton (I can't remember what that means.  you can look it up if you are interested).  Church History, Sacraments, doctrine, ecclesiology, christology, etc.  Each class is 5 weeks long and costs $30. because our archdiocese has a partnership with them.  In the fall, I'll continue with one class each 5 week session and take spanish with a friend of mine.  See what happens when your youngest is on his way out?

OK, this heathen's got to go.   Grin

I didn't like the 'you guys' business! Cheesy We're all one family!

I remember liking taking outside of college classes, I got some fun language tutoring that way. I've never taken a virtual class myself though I remember when distance learning was just getting started.

shin, when I said 'you guys' it simply meant you think about some of these "superficial" things differently than I do.  You say yourself that I am (what's under my name here?  Undecided).  No matter.  The more I practice, the more at peace I feel with any changes the Church brings in terms of liturgy, etc.   So, I'm going to keep practicing and reminding myself whenever something gets me angry or upset......... hey Martin, that doesn't mean no  boxing   After I take a few of these classes, you are in for trouble from me  Grin   Right now I am at a distinct disadvantage!  But not for long!   Wink
