Actually there are several Muslim names that are found in the Bible. Joseph (Yusuf) Ismael, Mary (Miriam) John ((Yunis) Abraham (Ibrihim) Zacharia,
In addition to names from the Bible maybe you should mention one that they got from us. Abdul means servant of God. Augustine wrote very beautifully about how every Christian should be called "Servant of God." "Servus Dei"

Mohammed and Mary.

Not the ones I have in mind. Does the name "Mohammed" appear in the Bible?
I have tried to check but nothing comes up.
Mary, Hmmm, they use Mariam or Maryam, which is not in the Bible.
Give it another try. Think of Genesis and a certain ancestor of both the Israelites and the Arabs
and how it came about  Grin
Mariam and Maryam are Arabic and Hebrew versions of Mary. Maria is Mary in Spanish and Marie is Mary in French.

What I had in mind was Muslim names as it is used by Muslims not their versions in other languages.
The two names I had found in the Bible are Ishmael and Abdi.
There is a man called Abdi who operates a private car hire near my home here. I use his car frequently as I do not own a car. One day I told him his name is in our Holy Book. He was surprised as was I.

According to Coptic tradition it was 41.

41, hmmm,   Let us talk that over, over a cuppa, shall we?  Smiley  teapot
Now, I have a great respect for tradition.
I wonder how they arrived on this number. I must try and find out.
He seems to have received many, many times more blows than those quoted by the Copts.
Shin gave us a hint in his post as to where to find the answer which came to us straight from He who was the subject of the blows.

What is the Christian version of Abdul / Abdullah?  I found out  the Hebrew equivalent is Obadiah

"Servus Dei" it is more of a title than a proper name.

Then the worshipper prays:

Lord, hear us and have mercy on us and forgive us our sins. Amen. [top]

  (Lord have mercy) 41 times

The reason they pray "Lord have mercy." 41 times is because that is how many times they say that Jesus was struck when he was whipped.

Servus Dei, and in school a child thus named will end up with only the first part, Servus. I have never met anyone with that name. Its meaning renders it a beautiful name.

St Augustine said that we should all consider ourselves as servants of God and that we should address each other as "Servant of God."

That sounds wonderful Poche. I think we should heed him. I am tempted to adopt the name for my signature or something. Smiley

On second thought, this is already a title of the pope, "Servant of the servants of God"  (servus servorum Dei).
If the pope is Servant of the servants of God, then we  would be Servants of the servants of the servants of God. Smiley

Isn't that how many years He lived?  crucifix

That would be why it'd be an important number to remember. I've heard that the Romans scourged people over 30 lashes so I thought of this number.

Oh I had forgotten about that Brigid! Yes there was sort of traditional limit on the number of stripes a person is supposed to be given for crimes, and then I remember was it the Romans? Would not limit it.

Although the Bible does not say so explicitly, it is very possible that from the time Jesus was taken into custody from the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus was beated, lashed, punched  many times, both before and after the scourging. If there was an official limit to the scourging, The woulds that Our Lord mentioned could have been received outside of the scourging. I read somewhere that the solders took turns scourging Him and only stopped because they were tired and got bored, so they turned to the crown of thorns! Sad

According to Tradition, Saint Peter and Saint Paul were imprisoned together for a period in Rome before their martyrdom. What is that prison called?
Please post "pass  Grin" , if you want me to post the answers to these questions and I will do just that. Grin
