A Prayer For Counsel

HOLY Spirit of truth, eternal God, give us, we implore You,
 Your holy gift of counsel, so that we may be able both to instruct and advise others, when it is our duty,
 and to know from whom we ourselves ought to seek advice when we are in perplexity or in trouble.
 Of ourselves, dear Lord we have very little sense or judgment,
 so we rely on Your blessed inspirations to teach us what we should do and say in every emergency.
 Make us wise and prudent.
 Help us to encourage others, to do good and to avoid evil.
 Give us a special interest in the young and inexperienced,
especially in those who are exposed to danger or trials,
 and teach us how to aid them by good example and good advice.
Make us aware, we beseech You,
 of all dangers that threaten us, especially of a spiritual kind.
 Guide us, so that we may ever avoid evil and may serve You faithfully forever, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Father, one God,
 world without end.

How divinely pure Your thoughts are!
Your words only reflect wonders,
Parables worthy of searching minds.
I earnestly strive to parallel after You.
Tend to my need of respecting others,
that I may never gossip against anyone.
Guide me in the righteous path of life,
where sensational gossip is nonexistent.
If by Your will, my intervention is required,
guide me to extinguish the attacks of others.
Jesus, You are the glorious light of truth!
