PRAYER TO
SAINT ALPHONSUS LIGUORI

St. Alphonsus,
you are the special patron
of all who suffer from arthritis
and the pains of many years.
When our fingers twist with pain,
keep us focused on the hands of Christ
pierced with nails.
When our knees throb with endless aches,
allow us to see the knees of Jesus
smashing to the street under the heavy cross.
When our backs stiffen with soreness,
let us remember the back of Christ
thrown across the rough wood of the cross.
When our hips, elbows, knuckles, and other joints
hurt so much that tears well up in our eyes,
help us to recall the tears,
the sweat, and the blood
that flowed from our crucified Jesus,
who suffered so much more for each of us.

St. Alphonsus,
you were afflicted with curvature of the spine
and confined to a wheelchair in your final years.
Teach us to unite all our pains
with the sufferings of Jesus.
By your intercession,
may our pain be eased — but even more,
may we be one with Jesus in his death
and resurrection for the redemption of the world.

Amen.

Odhiambo, I appreciate what you are going through, I also carry this little cross.

Saint Alphonsus please keep us in your prayers,
that we may have the strength of faith to endure
our suffering for the good those we love and those for whom we pray,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

That is something else we have in common George apart from the all  important one of being one in Christ.
This last month or so has been rough especially on waking up in the morning. At first I was not sure what it was because the pain was not at the affected joint but it was referred to my upper leg. I was scared to do an xray fearing the worst.
Eventually I gathered up the courage and did an xray and it showed osteoarthritis.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our trust in Thee!

Yes, it can be very debilitating, I have it in my back and spine area and also my hands, but so far it hasn't as bad as others I've seen.
I didn't know about St. Alphonsus so thank you for that info. and yes, praise Jesus for his sacrifice.

Saint Alphonsus please pray for us

George, when one is asked, " what is your name"?, is it correct to say: "My names are....?"
I have always thought that that was incorrect English but so many people here answer that way.
During our Presidential Debate last March, a number of them introduced themselves that way: My names are.... Smiley

What brought this on was the very long list of names Saint Alphonsus Liguori was given by his parents.
Here is his full name:
Alphonsus Mary Antony John Cosmas Damian Michael Gaspard de' Liguori !
If that doesn't break a record  Grin

I've never heard this in my life myself! How odd! I wonder if it's common someplace else and I just haven't heard it.

So many! I wonder if that had something to do with him being born of the nobility?

I always say, 'St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori' because of his love of Our Lady and that certainly is plenty to type. All those names are saints names I recognize except Gaspard. But there is a St. Gaspar I know of. A different form of the same name?

It helps to be named after saints, the more the better; that way, we have intercessors up there looking out for us!

If you have never heard it Shin, and English/American is your mother tongue, then it cannot be right. Stands to reason, does it not? Smiley

Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary,
that never was it known,
that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help, or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
though burdened by my sins,
I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you I come, before you I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in your mercy,
hear and answer me.
Amen.
