One Hampton University student says she was surprised when an ordinary school task turned into an "embarrassing" nightmare. Melonna Clarke, 26, a senior dressed in a hijab, a headscarf that many Muslim women wear, waited in line to get her student ID during the first week of classes last month. When she reached the front of the line, the receptionist asked her to step aside. “She said I couldn't get my photo taken because I was wearing my head scarf,” Clarke told Yahoo Shine.

In fact, the only way Clarke could be photographed was if she removed the scarf or provided proof that she was a Muslim. “My reaction was, ‘Are you serious?’” said Clarke. “It was ridiculous, especially because Hampton is a multicultural university. It’s hard enough to walk out of my house every day to face prejudice.”

The question for us today is is there any proof that we are Catholic?

I read somewhere that for real Catholics, these are some of the basics of your life:

I. OFFER YOUR WORK, SUFFERINGS AND JOYS TO GOD EVERY MORNING.
2. EXAMINE YOUR CONSCIENCE EVERY NIGHT.
3. MAKE THE SIGN OF THE CROSS WITH REVERENCE.
4. CARRY YOUR ROSARY.
5. ARE LOYAL TO YOUR COUNTRY, YOUR SCHOOL, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR PARISH.
6. ARE USEFUL AND HELPFUL TO YOUR PARENTS.
7. ARE COURTEOUS TO OTHERS.
8. ARE HONEST AND THRIFTY IN MONEY MATTERS.
9. ARE CLEAN IN THOUGHT, WORD AND DEED.

A real catholic then would have been courteous to Melonna Clarke, seeing the Face of Jesus in her despite her faith.

Would that make a difference?

It would yes, taking into account the question you posed.

The new school my kids go to have a mix of many cultures and we have a lot of Arabic children. It is amazing how the Amercian Arab girls wear their head scarves (hijab) faithfully and wear modest clothing---- some of them refusing to wear pants and wear long skirts, long sleeves, etc. Their faith may not be the true faith but I admire their consistency when it comes to their traditions and culture.

We must go back to our own beautiful Catholic traditions that have been lost in the fog of modernism. Otherwise how do we look different from any other church down the street? It is our tradition that makes us stand apart...the Latin Mass, incense, candles, wearing of scapular, religious statues, stained glass windows, altar boys with their patens (my pet peeve  Undecided ) , etc etc and even modest clothing. The Muslims have managed to stay strong and multiply because of their refusal to budge to Modernism . Their Koran has not been translated from Arabic to any other language for fear of contamination. Please correct me if I'm wrong. They refuse to change any of their rituals to fit in with the secular world or the changing modern world. The same applies to pagans who have stuck to their original language in their religious rituals which is Sanskrit.

Why have we been so liberal and careless about our traditions and the Latin Mass?

I was thinking about this post a while ago. I thought to myself, what if it was a Catholic nun instead of the muslin woman, would she have been turned away too? would she have been required to remove her veil before a photo of hers could be taken?
I very much doubt it. It is all islamophobia. I must say though that sometimes some Muslim women dress in a manner which raises security concerns in this day and age when terrorism has spread worldwide.  Apart from the hijab which is okay by me, others wear face veils or masks as well, completely obscuring her identity.  That, I do not like.

Of course the idea that women should wear a veil comes from St Paul.

I don't like covering of face and eyes either.  I'm sure God would not want that too! Cheesy  It is also definitely a security concern.
