'Without temptation, no one can be saved. . . Whoever has not experienced temptation cannot enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.'

St. Anthony of Egypt

What do folks think are the reasons for this quote?

The only people the devil does not bother with are those already in his camp.

I'm thinking God allows his most faithful to be sorely tempted (Jesus, Peter, Job, David, Paul etc.) to show the devil and those that serve him what real love is, and the blessings that flow from sacrificial love.

And maybe to allow those who are most faithful to see how omnipotent He really is.

This last quote makes me think of...

'The glory of one who knows how to suffer is so great that Heaven, angels and men, and even God Himself, gaze on him with joy as a most glorious sight. And if the saints in Heaven desired anything, it would be to return to earth so as to bear some crosses.'

St. Louis Marie de Montfort

And how the value of our acts depends on their being in Christ.. they must be supernaturally good to be truly valuable..

Temptation is necessary so we can grow in virtue and strength and prove to God our love for Him.

In 251 Anthony was born in Lower Egypt to wealthy landowner parents.
Upon his parents' demise, he gave away some of his family's lands to his neighbors.
