Ho ho, you forgot the (R) on it!

I have two hydrangea, of another variety, I do not know if they have survived the winter yet, and so far they have not grown high enough to blossom. Perhaps they will tell me a bit about the soil I have if they are the kind that change color depending on it.

St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us!

{A} Starch Hyacinth
{B} A plant with a long stalk at the end of which are many tiny blue flowers. The flowers have the scent of boiled starch.
{C} The different habits of nuns can require regular starching. Starch is made from various plants. The word 'starch' is from a Germanic root with the meanings 'strong, stiff, strengthen, stiffen'.

Today's saints whose flower this is are St. William, Abbot of Eskille, and Pope St. Sixtus I.

St. Sixtus I, born A.D. 42, died c. A.D. 124 was the sixth pope after St. Peter.  According to the Liber Pontificalis he passed the following three ordinances: That none but sacred ministers may touch the sacred vessels. That after the Preface the priest shall recite the Sanctus with the people. That bishops who have been summoned to the Holy See, shall upon their return not be received by their dioceses except on presenting Apostolic letters.
